Crochet Pattern: Blossom Doily

This doily was designed with a similar idea in mind as The Hipster Doily; using sock or fingering yarn in modern colors to update the idea of an old fashioned doily made with cotton lace weight yarns and tiny steel hooks. I love the way this doily looks either like a flower or a star, making it versatile for decorating.

Crochet Pattern: Blossom Doily
thin cluster (tcl): yo, insert hook into stitch, pull up loop, yo, pull up another loop, yo
and through 2 loops on hook, yo over and through 2 more loops on hook, yo and through remaining loops on hook)
Round 1: ch 8, join with a sl st to form a ring, ch 3, 32 dc into ring: 32 dc
Round 2: ch 3, tcl in same st as join, ch 3, tcl in same st, * skip 3 dc, ch 7, (tcl, ch 3, tcl) in next dc, repeat from * around, ending with ch 7, join with sl st in top of first tcl: 16 tcl, 8 ch-3 spaces, 8 ch-7 spaces
Round 3: ch 3, *(tcl, ch-3, tcl) in ch-3 space, ch 7, repeat from * around, ending with ch 7, join with sl st in top of begininng tcl: 16 tcl, 8 ch-3 spaces, 8 ch-7 spaces
Round 4: ch 3, *(tcl, ch-3, tcl) in ch-3 space, ch 4, sc in ch-7 space of Row 2 and Row 3, ch 4, repeat from * around, join with sl st in top of beginning tcl: 16 tcl, 16 sc, 8 ch-3 spaces
Round 5: ch 3, *(tcl, ch-3, tcl) in ch-3 space, ch 16, sl st in 12th ch from hook to form ring, ch 3, turn, 6 dc into ring, sl st in sc of previous row, turn, 8 dc into ring, turn, repeat from * around, join with a sl st in top of beginning tcl: 16 tcl, 112 dc, 8 ch-3 spaces
Round 6: ch 1, *sc in ch-3 space, 16 dc in space opposite of previous rows 14 dc, repeat from * around, join with sl st in beginning ch-1: 128 dc, 8 sc
Round 7: ch 1, *sc in next 8 dc, (dc, ch3, dc) in next dc, sc in next 7 dc, sc in sc, repeat from * around, join with sl st in beginning ch-1: 123 sc, 16 dc, 8 ch-3 spaces
Finish off, weave in all ends. Make it pretty!

Thanks sooooo much for these patterns. I do a lot of crochet and knitting at work, (nightshift computer watching :)) and I just finished a project earlier than I planned, soI didn’t have anotherone ready to go. 12 hours with nothing to keep my hands busy is a looooong night. Then I ran across you site, and these wonderful, quick working patterns. I’ve got the “Hipster”,the “Large Hipster” and the “Blossom” printed out, (can’t save websites at work), and an email of the link to myself so I can get more at home!!!

Hi Ela, I think Erin had a typo in the pattern, so I edited round 2. Let me know if you have trouble with the way it’s written now.

I’m just not getting round #5.
Beginning with after I have done tcl, ch 3, tck. I then ch 16. sl st in 12th stitch of chain I have just worked to form a ring, then ch 3, turn work, then 6 dc in ring. then it says sl st in sc of prev row. I may, although I’m not sure, be joining in the wrong stitch of the previous row. I assumed that this would be the stitch that was an sc in the row below it while I go forward with my work. Not turning at this point, then turn again and do 8 dc in ring and turn. here is where I am completely lost. I came out constantly doing the wrong side of the ring and in so doing twisting my work causing it to not lay flat at all or having not otehr place to go other than on top of the previous tcl point.. What am I doing wrong?

When sl st on 12th chain from hook, is that the sc that we joined row 2 and 3? Then ch 3, turn, 6 dc into ring, I did that. Then sl st in sc of previous row I don’t get it

The 12th chain from your hook will be apart of the 16 chains you made. You will not make the slip stitch into a single crochet, you are working into a chain. Starting from your hook, count 12 of the chains and then make your slip stitch into that chain. Since you chained 16 you will have 4 chains left.
The “sl st in sc of previous row” means to make a slip stitch into the single crochet on row 4. You don’t want to work into the chains that are left.
