Okay, so admittedly, clutter can be an eyesore. Whip up this quick little canister to store little knickknacks: paper clips, loose change, candies, and what-nots. Thanks to the basketweave stitch, the interesting and textured design gives the canister a unique look (that is actually easy to make). |

Crochet Pattern: Basketweave Canister
Base:
Round 1: make an adjustable magic ring, ch 1, 6 sc in ring, sl st in first sc: 6 sc
Round 2: ch 1, 2 sc in each sc round, sl st in first sc: 12 sc
Round 3: ch 1, (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) 6 times, sl st in first sc: 18 sc
Round 4: ch 1, (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 6 times, sl st in first sc: 24 sc
Round 5: ch 1, (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 6 times, sl st in first sc: 30 sc
Body:
Round 1: ch 1, working in back loops only (blo), sc in each st around, sl st in first sc: 30 sc
Round 2: ch 2 (does not count as stitch here and throughout), dc in each sc, sl st in first dc: 30 dc
Round 3: ch 2, fpdc in first 3 dc, (bpdc in next 3 dc, fpdc in next 3 dc) 5 times, bpdc in next 3 dc, sl st in first dc: 15 fpdc and 15 bpdc
Round 4: ch 2, bpdc in first 3 dc, (fpdc in next 2 dc, bpdc in next 3 dc) 5 times, fpdc in next 2 dc, sl st in first dc: 15 bpdc and 15 fpdc
Rounds 5-6: repeat rounds 3 and 4

I just made a batch of Plarn cozies using Rachel’s pattern. I agree with Nancy that this pattern would make make nice yarn cozies.

Neat, although for a true basket weave round 4 should read “fpdc in next 3 dc” instead of “2” ?
Thank you Claire! I’ve been wanting to make some more mason jar covers, but I didn’t want to use the same “pattern” that I used before. With this pattern, you have just given me the idea of enlarging this pattern to fit quart size mason jars.
I crochet little things like beanies, crafty things, and baby blankets. I would love to crochet an afghan using the basket weaves stitch. I made the bottom in a spiral. And used a size G hook with scrap yarn and 108 stitches.
