Crochet Pattern: Miss Mouse Cat Toy
By Emilee Gettle – 2 CommentsI have two cats at home who are crazy about catnip. I’ve made felt cat toys in the past and filled them with my kitten’s herb of choice, much to their pleasure. I’m away from home on a business trip now and so in a fit of homesickness I crocheted this mouse for my comedic kitties, Crazy and Maggie. I know they will have as much fun with this as I did making it. I can’t wait to watch them! This mouse is jumbo sized for a heaping helping of catnip, but you could also use this as a child’s toy (minus catnip). If you want, you could add beads for eyes too! |

Assembly
With grey, whip stitch two sides of the mouse’s body together to form a pyramid shape. Then whip stitch third (bottom) piece to each side, leaving a small opening. Turn mouse body inside out and stuff with stuffing and catnip. Then whip stitch opening closed.
Tail
Slip stitch pink eyelash yarn onto back of mouse and ch 20, sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across: 19 sc
Finish off.
Ears
Use an upholstery needle to whip stitch ears onto the body.
Nose, Eyes & Whiskers
Run the upholstery needle from the back of the body to the front (eliminating the need to make a knot) and then with pink yarn stitch eyes and nose. To finish off, run needle from front to back of the body and trim.
Use the grey yarn and run the upholstery needle through the nose two times, leaving a large loop on one side of the nose. Cut loop and then tie each pair of loose whiskers together making a square knot at the nose to secure.

I have made a couple mice that I stuffed with catnip, but my cats always tear them apart after a couple days of playing with them. Is this normal or are my cats just a little over zealous with their toys
Hi Robert,
If your cats are tearing up their crochet toys, try using a sturdier yarn like cotton which is sturdier. Or another thing is to use a smaller hook or crochet tighter.
I have a very rough cat and she could shred through steel at times it seems. She sharpens her claws on wood. And she is big, not fat just very large, bigger than my sister’s wire hair terrier.
I use cotton or regular sisal twine to make her toys. If you try the sisal you might need to use gloves as it can be really rough on the hands.
I save the cute stuff to use as trims as she will tear the cute part up in about half an hour.
Hope this info helps,
Pallie
