I have been harvesting strawberries like crazy in our garden. I simply can’t resist their tempting sweetness. If held to the sun their sugary flesh is almost metallic in color. This week I decided to take my love of strawberries one step further and create this crochet pattern for you to enjoy. There are so many uses for this pattern, from decorating kids apparel to a zipper pull on your purse. Or, if you don’t want your strawberry to be three-dimensional, just make one half of the berry and use it as a cute applique on kitchen linens! The sky is the limit!

Skill Level:

Finished Size: 2″ (5 cm) long, 1 1/2″ (4 cm) wide

Materials: Red Fingering Yarn (approximately 3 yards) Hunter Green Fingering Yarn (approximately 1 yard) Sage Green Fingering Yarn (approximately 1 yard) Crochet Hook 7 (1.50 mm) Small Black Beads Yarn Needle Red Thread Sewing Needle Polyester Fiberfill

Gauge:
3 sc stitches = 1/2″ (1 cm)

Crochet Pattern: Strawberry
Make 2
Row 1: with red, ch 3, sc in second ch from hook, 2 sc in next ch, ch 1, turn: 3 sc

Row 2-7: sc in each sc across until 1 sc remains, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1, turn
Row 8: sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn: 9 sc
Row 9-11: skip first sc, sc in second sc and in each sc across, ch 1, turn
Finish off.

Hunter Green Leaf (Make 2)
Row 1: with hunter green, ch 3, sc in second ch from hook, 2 sc in next ch, ch 1, turn: 3 sc

Row 2-7: sc in each sc across until 1 sc remains, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1, turn
Finish off.

Sage Green Leaf (Make 2)
Row 1: with sage green, ch 3, sc in second ch from hook, 2 sc in next ch, ch 1, turn: 3 sc

Row 2-5: sc in each sc across until 1 sc remains, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1, turn
Finish off.

Assembly
First sl st the two red strawberry halves together along the outer edge. Next, stuff the strawberry with polyester fiberfill. Then, sew the four leaves, alternating shades of green, on the top of the berry. Finally sew on small black beads for seeds.
