I absolutely despised peas growing up and had more fun mashing them on my plate than anything else. However, when I discovered what they tasted like fresh out of the pod, I changed my mind. They are the perfect garden snack, wrapped in a little pod package. This week I crocheted my own peas in a pod. I used wool yarn, which can easily be felted too. This project would make a great pin. However, your children or grandchildren might claim them for their play food collection. I’m thinking of felting a few of these pods onto a wool purse too!

Skill Level:

Finished Size: 3 1/4″ (8 cm) long and 1″ (3 cm) wide

Materials: Emerald Green Wool Medium Worsted Weight Yarn (approximately 12 yards) Lime Green Wool Medium Worsted Weight Yarn (approximately 8 yards) Crochet Hook H (5 mm) Yarn Needle Sewing Thread Sewing Needle Scissors

Gauge:
3 sc stitches = 1 inch

Crochet Pattern: Peas in a Pod
Pod (Make 2)
Row 1: with emerald green, ch 3, sc in second ch from hook, 2 sc in next ch, ch 1, turn: 3 sc

Row 2-9: sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn: 3 sc
Row 10: skip first sc, sc in next 2 sc: 2 sc
Finish off.

Peas (Make 3)
Round 1: with lime green, ch 4, sl st in first chain made to form a ring, ch 1, 6 sc in ring, sl st in top of beginning ch-1: 6 sc
Finish off.

Assembly
Use a yarn needle to whip stitch the two pod pieces together, leaving an opening for the peas. Place each pea inside the pod and use a needle and thread to secure them in place.
