Crochet Pattern: Barbie Summer Tie Top
By Rachel Choi – 21 CommentsThis top is interestingly made, yet very easy. All you have to do is make two triangles and connect them together. Maybe that sounds weird, but it works! The triangles are connected at the neck by a simple chain and the rest is just wrapped around your doll and held together with a belt. This creates the V-neck in the front and an open back. You can also sew the back or front of the top together if you like, but it’s not required to crochet this awesome summer top for Barbie! |

Neck Strap
Note that the neck strap will attach the 2 triangles made above.
Start by attaching thread to the corner made by row 1 of one of the triangles.
Chain 18, slip stitch in the corner made by row 1 of the second triangle, finish off.
Belt
Row 1: ch 100, finish off.
Optional Sewing:
To wear this top, place neck strap behind neck and drape triangle pieces in front of doll. Use the belt to tie the 2 pieces around your doll.
You can also sew the edge of the front or back side together so that only one side opens. You may also choose to sew the belt on. Sew as you desire.

You know I’m gonna have to buy a barbie doll just so I can do the patterns you’ve made for them xD
That’s what I did. Her name is Rebecca and I’m making an entire wardrobe to photograph and then pass on to my grandnieces.
How cute! I will definitely make this!
Cute thanks for sharing all your great patterns.
Wish you had a pattern for a ladys top in this wrote out would be cute to wear.
I was thinking the same thing Rhonda! I had to make the barbie version first to see if would turn out ok, lol!
I would love to see a picture of it “flat”, not on the doll. I can’t see how it works up in my head…
Thanks soooo much for sharing this pattern. I worked it and it turned out beautiful!!. However, for some reason on my doll it turned out to be long enough for a dress. I love it though. I’m going to make more of them in different colors!! Great instructions!! MORE!MORE!!
a dress, interesting! I’m glad you still like it though 🙂
I made it in pink and it’s really cute. Thanks for such a nice pattern, and keep up the good work!
Hi Rachel,
I have a doubt in the pattern and that is that you wrote in Rows 5 – 19 at the end of each row to sc in the next dc, I do believe it should of have been ” dc in the next dc”. Correct me if I’m wrong.
You’re right! Thanks for finding the typo Anna 🙂
Aww I love this! My relatives used to handmake all my barbie’s clothes… they were all very well dressed! I think I will try making this for a few little girls i know that have Barbies!
This is sooo cute! I can’t wait to make it for my great niece’s first Barbie in several colors!
I am just a beginner and I am having trouble understanding patterns. Can you help me understand rows 1 and 2. I can (hopefully) get it from there! I understand I have to make a dc, but do I make 2 dc in the same ch? Do I go back in the same exact ch for the second dc? I also understand I have to ch 3 to get the row height for the next row, but where do I go from there?? Any help, tips, etc would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks!
Amy 🙂
Hi Amy! For row 1, you’re going to make 2 double crochets into the forth chain from you’re hook, meaning you are going to insert you hook into the same chain to make both double crochets. On row 2, are going to make 2 double crochets in each double crochet across the row. Your work will start to look like a mini triangle. Let me know if you need more help.
Rachel, is this based on a full sized pattern? i would looooove to make something like this for myself. 🙂 It looks so cute!! Anyone know of a human sized pattern for something like this?
Hi Lora, sorry I only made the doll version for now. But if you’d like, you can continue to increase the size of each triangle piece to make it fit yourself.
No biggie Rachel. Just thought I’d throw the question out there in case anyone might know of a pattern. I searched a bit with no luck.
Your site is awesome! Thanks for sharing your passion!
Kinda a repeat of what Rachel said, but I thought I’d throw my two cents out there: since this is made with thread it would take a lot of work to make one for a human-sized human, but following the basic pattern with a larger hook and some larger yarn it would probably work pretty well. You might need to sew it together and making a sturdier neck strap would be a very good idea, but other then that I don’t see any problems with making a larger version. Maybe someone could try it out and tell us how well it works?
Love this can’t wait to make this for my special Nieces barbie in different colors.
thanks for sharing
Charlotte
I love this pattern it is very cute but for some reason it turned out really long on the barbie…….
