This square-yet-not-square motif can be used in a variety of projects. You can link a bunch of them up in a line to make a lacy scarf or arrange them in various shapes to make a shawl or small blanket. The concave motif can also be combined with motifs in other shapes to make unique accessories with a variety of curves and lines.

Materials: Medium Weight Yarn (approximately 25 yards) Crochet Hook I (5.50 mm)

Gauge:
Rounds 1-3 in pattern measures 2 1/2″ (6.5 cm) wide by 2 1/2″ (6.5 cm) tall

Crochet Pattern: Concave Motif
Round 1: Make adjustable ring, ch 3, 12 dc in ring, sl st in top of beginning ch-3: 12 dc
Round 2: ch 1, (sc in next 2 dc, ch 5, skip 1 dc) around, sl st in beginning ch-1: 28 sts
Round 3: ch 1, (sc2tog, 8 hdc in next ch-5 space) around, sl st in beginning ch-1: 36 sts
Round 4: ch 1, (sc in next 4 sts, ch 3, tr2tog, ch 3, sc in next 3 sts) around, sl st in beginning ch-1: 56 sts
Round 5: ch 1, (sc in next 4 sc, 4 sc in next ch-3 space, ch 2, 4 dc in tr, ch 2, 4 sc in next ch-3 space, sc in next 3 sc) around, sl st in beginning ch-1: 92 sts
Finish off.
