For those who want to add a bit of avian flair to a project, try this bird silhouette applique. It is easy to make and in no time you can have a nice-sized flock to adorn bags, blankets, sweaters, hats, and anything else you would like to decorate. The bird is made all in one piece, so the only sewing you have to do is when attaching the applique to a project.

Skill Level:

Finished Size: 3″ (7.5 cm) long, 1 1/4″ (3 cm) wide

Materials: Light Weight Yarn (approximately 15 yards) Crochet Hook G (4.50 mm)

Gauge:
Rounds 1 – 4 in pattern measures 3″ (7.5 cm) long by 1 1/4″ (3 cm) wide

Crochet Pattern: Bird Applique
Round 1: make adjustable ring, ch3, (4 dc, hdc, 2 sc, hdc) in ring, sl st in first dc: 8 sts
Round 2: ch 3, 2 dc in each of next 4 dc, (hdc, sc) in next hdc, 2 sc in each of next 2 sc, (sc, hdc) in next hdc, sl st in first dc: 16 sts
Row 3: ch 3, (dc, tr, dc, hdc) in first dc, sc in next 6 dc, (hdc, 3 dc, tr) in next dc: 15 sts
Row 4: ch 2, turn, hdc in first 4 sts, sc in next hdc, sl st in next sc: 5 sts
Finish off.
