With the arrival of autumn, I thought how fitting it would be to work up something chunky. So I made a list of all the items I could think of off the top of my head that would make fast and fun projects. Here is the first one, an easy cap pattern. With your choice of chunky yarn and a large hook, simply follow some of the basic steps of crocheting for a quick hat to keep out the impending cold. You can’t make just one, though! Hi. So, I know this is a basic pattern, but, it’s generally a classic. I had an issue with the pattern though. I am using a size 6 yarn, and, I’m even using a larger hook than suggested…I also crochet really loosely, which means I usually have to use a smaller hook or my stuff comes out really big. This pattern though, seems really small. I got to where I had 36 stitches each round and it looked like it would only fit a newborn, maybe even a preemie. My hook size was an N (9mm). So, I don’t see how this could fit an adult as written.

    Hello Melanie,
Just to clarify, by “size 6 yarn” are saying super bulky weight?

    Hi,
I love this pattern. Thank you. My question is I want to make it a bit bigger. The head circumference I need is about two more inches. How can I do that? Thank you so much.

      Hi Cassie,
Round 6 is the last increasing round before you work even for the rest of the hat. To make a bigger hat simply continue increasing for as many rounds as you feel necessary before working even.

      Happy Crocheting (and Merry Christmas!),
      Amy
