I love a chance to decorate for another holiday. No sooner is one over before I put up decorations for the next. St. Patrick’s Day is coming soon but rarely do I find any decorations in the stores that I really like. As always, I say, make your own! And I do. Here is a lovely strand of little shamrocks just dying to be hung up in your home. The shamrocks are small and can be made in a matter of minutes. Make them in one color or get creative and use a handful of different greens. The garland string is made with two strands of yarn held together and features little circles at both ends for an easier means of hanging. Make nine shamrocks as suggested or make as many as you like!

Skill Level:

Finished Size: 66″ (168 cm) long

Materials: Medium Weight Yarn (approximately 50 yards) (each shamrock uses 3 yards) Crochet Hooks E (3.50 mm) and H (5.00 mm)

Gauge:
Round 1 in pattern measures 1″ (2.5 cm) in diameter

Crochet Pattern: String of Shamrocks Garland

Shamrock (make 9)
Round 1: with E hook, make an adjustable ring wrapping around finger twice, ch 1, 10 sc in ring, sl st in first sc: 10 sc
Round 2: ch 1, hdc in first sc, 2 dc in next sc, (hdc, ch 1, sl st) in next sc, *(sl st, ch 1, hdc) in next sc, 2 dc in next sc, (hdc, ch 1, sl st) in next sc, repeat from * around until 1 sc remains, sl st in next sc, ch 6, working in back ridge only, sl st in second ch from hook and in next 4 ch, sl st in same sc as previous sl st, sl st in beginning ch-1: 27 sts
Finish off.

Garland String
With H hook, hold two strands of yarn together, ch 5, sl st in 5th ch from hook to form ring, ch 1, 10 sc in ring, sl st in first sc, ch 205, sl st in 5th ch from hook to form ring, ch 1, 10 sc in ring, sl st in first sc, finish off.

Attaching Shamrocks
Find the center of the garland string and attach a shamrock with a sl st at the top petal. Add remaining shamrocks evenly on both sides of middle shamrock (at intervals of 6 inches).
