Free Crochet Pattern: Noelle Shimmer Cowl
By Amy Yarbrough – 13 CommentsYou know that feeling you get when you create something simple but it turns out looking exquisite? That’s my feeling about the Noelle Shimmer Cowl!
Though the design is super simple, pair it with the right materials and you have something worthy to be worn in the most formal occasions! And by simple, I mean all you do is work half double crochets in the back loops throughout. See what I mean?
I cannot say enough about the character of this cowl. It is lightweight and stretchier than most crochet fabrics, making it the perfect go to piece for your wardrobe, from fall to spring. I used Patons Glam Stripes in White Gold (I was oohing and ahhing over the shimmery goldness the entire time!) but try it with your favorite yarn to admire the difference it makes!
If you give the Noelle Shimmer Cowl a try be sure and let me know what you think!

This is really pretty. Planning on making 2 for friends for Christmas.
Thanks, Twinkie Lover! Love to hear it!
I only had time to make one for a friend, but we just got together for “Christmas” last week, and she absolutely loved her cowl!! I made it from a cake of yarn in gray and pink that she had given me for my birthday!
Glad to hear it, Twinkie Lover! I’m sure you did a great job!
This is such a pretty cowl! Thank you for sharing the pattern. Happy holidays!
Thank you, Erica, it is my pleasure! Merry Christmas to you!
Can you tell me where I can purchase the yarn. Do you have to change colors to get the stripe effect?
Hello Kathi,
No, the gold stripes are in the yarn (which is so lovely, the picture really doesn’t do it justice). The yarn is Patons Glam Stripes and I believe you can by it at many craft stores that carry yarn. Michaels is one for sure.

Your instructions are wrong. It is more than 5 stitches wide and 14 inches would not go around my neck and hang down. Check with your typist. Your work is beautiful and your stitches are worked evenly throughout. I enjoy your work.
Reread the pattern. You were only doing a little bit to test the gauge. Go down further in the pattern.
Hello Holly,
Yes, as Kathi has said, you are working the gauge swatch. The pattern is down the page.
I’m glad you like my work!

I love this simple cowl and have already made several to give as Christmas gifts. I have looked high and low for the yarn you used. I’ve tried on line as well. All I can ever find is Patons sock yarns. I am in Orange County CA. Any suggestions besides Joanne, Michaels and Hobby Lobby?
Hello Judy,
So glad to hear you enjoy my pattern! It always wonderful to hear from fellow crocheters.
As for the yarn, it seems to be discontinued, I’m afraid. It looks like Joann’s online may still have a few colors, and I saw some options on Ebay, but other than that, I can’t say. There is a site that compares yarns, called YarnSub. When I looked up Patons Glam Stripes I saw some lovely substitutes. Hope this helps!
Best wishes,
Amy
