30 Feet Tall Lions at 2012 Olympics
By Rachel Choi – 8 CommentsI’ve been meaning to tell you this a couple weeks ago, but YES it is official! There will be three (not one, but three) 30 feet tall crocheted lions at the 2012 Olympics. A while ago I wrote about the possibility of Crochet Art at the 2012 Olympics, and now the committee chose a crochet piece. Shauna Richardson is the crocheter and will be crocheting for 2 years to get those lions done.
If you’re not a fan of the Olympics, maybe you’d at least be a fan of seeing giant crocheted lions?
You can take a look at the other decorations that have been chosen for the 2012 Olympics in London here. They seem very odd yet still fun!
That’s a nice dog, or bear? But do you have a picture of the lions in question??
That is actually the lion in the picture, ahahaha! I remember when I first saw it, I said to myself…”that doesn’t look like a lion!”
WOW! But it is still sweet looking, that is alot of work. How long does that take to crochet.
I’m not sure exactly how long it would take, but she’s going to be working on these lions for the next 2 years, probably full time.

There is a wee video at the bottom where she talks about the project! I wondered if she was going to use LOADS of stuffing inside them, but it turns out that the lions will be made of polystyrene (styrofoam) with the crocheted layer on the outside. 🙂

I would not have believed that that was crocheted if you hadn’t told me. That is amazing that someone had the time and patience to do that. Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
