Crochet Pattern: Apple Coaster
By Rachel Choi – 22 CommentsCrochet a cute apple coaster or make an entire set! Each coaster is fast and simple to crochet. You can even use scraps of yarn if desired. Follow the instructions below to get started.
Finished Size: 4 1/4″ (11 cm) in diameter

Gauge: rounds 1 – 3 in pattern measures 3 1/2″ in diameter

Crochet Pattern: Apple Coaster
Round 1: with red, ch 4, 12 dc in forth ch from hook, sl st in top of beginning ch-4: 12 dc
Round 2: ch 3, 2 dc in each dc around, sl st in top of beginning ch-3: 24 dc
Round 3: ch 3, (2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc) 12 times, sl st in top of beginning ch-3: 36 dc
Round 4: ch 2, (2 hdc in next dc, hdc in next dc) 18 times, sl st in top of beginning ch-2, finish off: 54 hdc
Stem
Row 1: with brown, ch 10, working in back ridge only, hdc in third ch from hook and in each ch across, finish off: 8 hdc
Leaf
With green, start by chaining 9.
Row 1: sl st in second ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next 2 ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch, sl st in next ch, turn to work in opposite side of foundation chain into remaining loop, sl st in next ch, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next 2 ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch, sl st in next ch, finish off: 16 sts
Using photo as a guide, sew stem and leaf to top of apple.

I just made one of these last night while watching (ok – listening to) my favorite TV show. I can’t wait to make some more so I have a full set. I’m also going to made a slightly larger version as a potholder. Elizabeth – love the idea of doing them in green and yellow. I will definitely try that. I love this pattern. My mother has her kitchen done in apples, as well as my mother in law and I’m making them both a set as a gift. I also liked Lorelei’s idea about a larger version for a potholder; I was thinking something similar ,like a center piece for the table.
This pattern is so adorable! I just made my first set, and I absolutely love ’em.

Rachel, would these work as potholder in cotton yarn?
Hi Kristy, they might be a bit too small and too thin to be a potholder. But you can try making more than one and sewing them together.
I have 54 hdc in round four. Am I wrong?

I’ve just looked over several patterns for small things like the circle bracelet, and I want to look over others like the flowers and coaster patterns for some quick gifts.
I have been crocheting headbands lately and have developed a pattern that I think is interesting. Maybe it’s been done before, but if not, I’d like to share it sometime when I can get the instructions written out. It confuses even me, so it will take some doing and I’ve never written patterns before. There are three of them on my Ravelry Projects page. Two are headbands for Hannah, and one is for her brother, Shae Scott. Hannah’s have flowers and Shae’s has bear ears. (I’ve used both of their names in the titles of the projects so they should be easy to find.)

Made this beautiful coaster-instructions great-so easy to follow. Perfect although mine curls up slightly-what did I do wrong…confident that I followed pattern. Used double knit wool & 4.5 hook.

Hi Vicki, you probably did do the pattern correctly if you’re confident that you did. Maybe you can block your coasters and it’ll straighten its self out. Here’s a post about blocking if you’re interested: Blocking Crochet

where is print on your web site to print out thr pattern I do not have facebook or any other thing I just qwant to read pattern if I like it hit print and it all done and english should be first this is the USA
Hi Elizabeth, you can use the print function in your internet browsers. For most browsers you’ll go to the top menu bar and click “file”, then “print”. All the pages on Crochet Spot are coded to be printer friendly, so it should print out neatly using your browser’s print function.
