Crochet Pattern: Kaleido Blanket
By Rachel Choi – 15 CommentsInspired by the fun colors of a kaleidoscope, this blanket can be crocheted with as many or as little colors as you want! Crochet this blanket to use up your scraps of yarn or to dwindle down a huge crochet stash. Since the Kaleido blanket is made up of a bunch of squares, it’s easy to crochet a few squares at a time without having to drag around an entire blanket. Once your squares are all attached, the blanket is finished off with a smooth, clean border.

Need help while crocheting your Kaleido Blanket? Just let me know!
Hey Rachel, I love the blanket, I don’t have one that is big enough for our King size bed so I am glad to get this! I also have lots of scrap yarn to use. It is perfect!!
This is gorgeous! It will definitely be my next project. Thanks, Rachel.
This pattern is GORGEOUS. I do have one question- does all the yarn I use have to be the same kind? ie- gauge, thinkness, material?
You’re yarn doesn’t have to be exactly the same, as long as it is the same weight. You can use different brands with different textures.
I second Pavi’s question about the different types of yarn. This is a beautiful blanket!!
It is beautiful! I have already added to my to be bought list and can’t wait to start it. It will make for a wonderful Christmas present, I wonder for who? ๐
Adding to Rachel’s answer about different yarns, you want to be sure they have the same care instructions or remember to use whatever the most ‘delicate’ one requires. In other words, if you use an acrylic yarn and a wool, you’ll have to treat it as if the whole afghan is wool.
Rachel its just the perfect pattern thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rachel,
This is gorgeous and I should love to tackle it. Are the squares when completed sewn or crocheted together?
Hi Margaret, I like to sew my squares together so that’s the instructions that are used in this pattern. You can crochet them together if that’s how you like to do it ๐

Hi,
I am still new at crotcheting but want to tackle this blanket. I understand the types of stitch but I am confused on how to tie round 1 in with round 2… I finished round 1 and made a slip knot on my hook with color B, but I don’t know where to go next… Please help! Thank you!
Hi Holly, in round 2 you can make your first stitch by inserting your hook between any of the dc that are on round one. So to make the first dc with the slip knot on your hook, you would yarn over, insert your hook between any dc on round 1, then pull up a loop, then yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook, yarn over, pull though the final 2 loops on hook – first dc made.
I like this. This is something small that I can easily do while commuting to work. Thanks for the great idea!
Hi Rachel ,it’s so beautiful.
