How To Crochet: Crown Picot Edging
By Robin Beers – 15 CommentsThis is a variation on a picot edge that looks like little crowns, thus the name, “crown picot”. It is basically 3 picots together to form a crown. The 2 outer ones are smaller and the middle one is larger. For more information on picot stitches, check out the picot stitches tutorial. You can use this stitch to edge a doily or a blanket.
Start with a row of single crochet. In this tutorial, I am using crochet thread size 3 with a D crochet hook. Note: If you are left handed, just put your mouse over the photo for a left-handed view. |

Remember to make 2 sc between each crown.

Can I find yarn like this in a craft store?
Yes, I get mine at Michael’s. It is Aunt Lydia’s cotton crochet thread size 3. The size 10 is thinner.
That is beautiful! I like this.
That’s very pretty!
I used this on one of my granddaughters afghan I just finished. Will send you a pic.
Many thanks for sharing all you do.
Simple and beautiful, thanks for share!
You’re very welcome everyone!
Very nice, thanks for the how-to!
how many stitch increments do you need? i’m guessing 4 or 5? i hope that made sense, i need to know how many my base chain needs to be. 🙂
love this edging, making a baby blanket for a sick little girl with a brain tumor & i think princess crowns will give it that special touch.
Hi Stephanni, it looks like multiples of 4 +1. So you’ll make your whole chain in increments of 4, but then add one more chain afterwards for “skip one sc” that’s at the beginning of the pattern.
awesome, thanks rachel! love the site! 🙂
I find that as I age it gets harder to make things for the grands (7) for Christmas but they still like to tell their friends that Grandma made it for them. I’ve been thinking about buying something like a tee shirt or sweat shirts and embellishing them to cut down on the work a little. This would make a great edging on any number of things. Thanks for the help and the instructions with pix.
HI-
YOUR PICOT EDGING HAS A VERY NICE LUSTER. I WAS ABOUT TO ASK WHAT THREAD YOU USE WHEN I SAW YOU SAID YOU USE AUNT LYDIA’S. I STOPPED USING IT BECAUSE IT GETS SO FUZZY AND DULL WHEN IT’S WORKED UP. I WAS WONDERING IF YOU KNOW OF ANY OTHER THREADS THAT HAVE A HIGH SHEEN TO THEM, ALSO IN A SIZE 3. I SAW A TUTORIAL BY YOSHTA INRUSSIA AND HER FLOWERS ARE DONE IN A VERY HIGH LUSTER THREAD. BUT OF COURSE, NO MENTION OF WHAT IT IS. ANY IDEAS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

This is fantastic. I’m learning so much here today. Thank you, thank you.
Hello! I am using this for an edging on a little mug rug, but the ends are ruffling up! Could you help me prevent the ruffling?
Thanks for any help!
