Crocheting a scene is a bit tricky but I’ve managed to overcome the difficulties of this by using what I call the Backwards Single Crochet. It’s a more attractive alternative to the Reverse Single Crochet, also known as the Crab stitch, and provides you with the ability to keep the “right side” of stitches always on the front. I chose Bernat’s Handicrafter Cotton and I really like the natural look the fiber of the yarn gives to the project and the scene. This pattern uses a series of single crochet and backwards single crochet stitches with a bunch of colors changes.

I played around with a few stitches until I found this one. By pulling the initial yarn over of a double crochet up higher than normal, you achieve a long and lacy stitch that no one will guess is a basic stitch. This stitch pattern mimics broomstick lace and hairpin lace, but is so much simpler to crochet!
