Crochet Pattern: Colorful Rainbow Mug Rug

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on May 26th, 2016 by Caissa "Cami" McClinton – Be the first to comment
I could not stop with just one Mug Rug pattern, especially with the merry month of June upon us. Show your pride and/or love of diversity this summer with this versatile Colorful Rainbow Mug Rug! I made mine using (some of) a jumbo package of embroidery floss. Each color used just over one 10-yard skein of floss held double (two strands of floss held together while crocheting), meaning each stripe used the length of about 5.5 yards as held double, or about 11 yards total. These stripes could be changed to any colors to suit your mood. The cotton floss held double ended up being about the weight of a sock yarn.

Crochet Pattern: Felted Flower

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on May 24th, 2016 by Candace – Be the first to comment
Felting is something that I wasn’t originally interested in, but over time, the idea has grown on me. For my first pattern, I wanted to start with something small. An accent is a great first felted project because even if you don’t felt it enough or you felt it a little too much, the difference in size won’t be disastrous. Try adding a cluster of felted flowers to a finished hat or scarf or wearing one as a brooch to finish off an outfit. crochet_felted_flower

Crochet Pattern: Marlena Bracelet

A nice cotton thread bracelet works as a great accent for a casual summer outfit. With the right thread and beads, you can have a combination that goes with your favorite outfit or mix summery neutrals to work with any outfit you come up with.
Make sure to take a look at the adding multiple beads to a crochet stitch tutorial if you aren’t familiar with the concept.

Crochet Pattern: Thermos Cozy

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on May 10th, 2016 by Candace – Be the first to comment
I have a nice steel thermos with a sleeve that had a small carrying strap. That sleeve seemed like it would be useful until the first time I used it, and my thermos full of tea slipped out of the sleeve and clattered to the ground. Since then, I’ve been meaning to make a cozy with a bottom for it.

This cozy is easy and quick to make and will make carrying your drinks (or soup) easy as pie.

Crochet Pattern: Tasseled Mug Rug

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on May 5th, 2016 by Caissa "Cami" McClinton – 5 Comments
What’s a mug rug? It’s bigger than a coaster, and smaller than a placemat. While sitting on your desk or side table, it can accommodate your cup and also a small snack. Mug rugs show their beauty even while being used. For these reasons, I knew I had to make a mug rug. The pattern is easy and addictive. Soon you’ll be making mug rugs in many different color combinations. Crochet a Mug Rug Free Pattern by Caissa McClinton @artlikebread for @crochetspot

Crochet Pattern: Tunisian Check Scrubbie

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on May 3rd, 2016 by Candace – 1 Comment
It can be hard to find a project for variegated yarns with short color repeats, so sometimes it’s best to think small and simple. A square scrubbie with a checkerboard pattern fits the bill quite nicely. This pattern requires some knowledge of Tunisian crochet. Be sure to use the chart linked below to brush up on abbreviations if you need it. crochet_tunisian_square_scrubbie

Crochet Pattern: Bit of Honey Earrings

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on April 28th, 2016 by Candace – 1 Comment
Are you looking for a good accessory to go with your spring and summer wardrobe? How about a pair of earrings that look like honeycombs? You can make them in yellow and on the theme of buzzing bees out to gather something sweet. Or you can play with thread and bead colors for a unique look that’s all yours. Either way, crocheting a pair of these is much safer than bothering a real honeycomb! crochet_bit_of_honey_earrings

Crochet Pattern: Lover’s Knot Flower Applique

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on April 21st, 2016 by Rachel Choi – Be the first to comment
This lovely, little flower applique uses the Lover’s Knot stitch (a.k.a. Love Knot, Solomon’s Knot, or simply Knot Stitch). The Lover’s Knot stitch is simple and lacy, which I love to use for clothing patterns to achieve nice drape. Never did I think I would use it for an applique, but it works very well to give the flower light and lacy petals. If you aren’t familiar with the Lover’s Knot stitch, please see the Lover’s Knot stitch tutorial before getting started. Crocheted in only 2 rounds, the flower is quick and easy to crochet. Crochet a few flowers and attach them to a headband or hat, or add pins to the backs and use them as brooches. crochet flower applique

Crochet Pattern: Keara Scarf

Spring is certainly dragging its feet where I live, so a scarf is still handy to have around. This skinny scarf isn’t too bulky, and is perfect for wrapping around your neck on cool mornings and evenings and wearing draped over your shoulders for the rest of the day.

If you are familiar with Tunisian crochet, it’s a great TV project. If you are not familiar with it, take a look at some of our Tunisian crochet tutorials, including How to Crochet :Tunisian Simple Stitch (TSS) and How to Crochet: Tunisian Increase at the Beginning of a Row before you start.
