Here is the third in my hot air balloon applique repertoire! (See my other two: Hot Air Balloon Applique and Striped Hot Air Balloon Applique). This pattern blends three fiery colors in a ripple between each section. The ripple is made with two rows of simple increasing and decreasing. Use this one and the others for decorating a blanket or nursery pillows, or whatever comes to mind. And as usual, have fun! Fiery Hot Air Balloon Applique

Crochet Pattern: Striped Hot Air Balloon Applique

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on October 1st, 2015 by Amy Yarbrough – 11 Comments
A picture I ran across the other day while looking for some color inspiration showed about 10 or more hot air balloons of all different colors and patterns speckling a European horizon. It was lovely against the pale blue sky and tan terrain. Some were striped in multi-colors, like the one I have designed for you, others had fewer colors and varied stripes or different patterns all together. For this applique I used five different colors and swapped them every two rows. Have fun making this simple and easy applique! Striped Hot Air Balloon

Crochet Pattern: Hot Air Balloon Applique

Have you ever taken a ride in a hot air balloon? I did once when I was young, but then the very next to ride after me had the ride of their lives as the balloon broke loose and took them miles away. Of course, the pilot was experienced and no one was ever in any danger. All was recovered, but needless to say, the fun was over for the day. Hot air balloons have always been a symbol of adventure. Why not use hot air balloons for the adventurous person in your life? Use them on a gift, to decorate for a party, or whatever else you can think of. This applique works up very quickly and is a lot of fun! Hot Air Balloon Applique

It’s almost time for fiber crafters’ favorite part of the year, bringing out–and making– cool weather accessories. If it’s still a little warm in your neck of the woods for hats, gloves, and scarves, try starting out small and making accessories for your favorite plastic friends. A cute beanie is a simple way to add to a doll’s fall wardrobe without having to make a trip to the toy store. crochet_barbie_beanie

Crochet Pattern: Gradient Seashore Dishcloth

Dishcloths are excellent ways to show off some of your favorite crochet stitches and could be just as well called stitch samplers. Since my family really loves fresh produce, we tend to use such cloths for produce towels, and they work beautifully. Two strands of super fine weight yarn are held together constantly for this pattern and the colors are alternated, giving it a unique gradient. The stitch is a solid shell which is a popular stitch seen often in crochet projects and easy to do. Let me know what you think! Gradient Seashore Dishcloth

Try something a little different with these dome-shaped thread earrings. You can choose how pronounced the shape is during blocking– choose a more subtle, shallow dome or a deep, dramatic dome to suit your style. Remember to use your stiffener of choice to hold whichever shape you choose. crochet_talia_earrings

Crochet Pattern: Peppermint Coffeemaker Cozy

A Chemex is a manual coffeemaker with a simple and yet sophisticated design going as far back as the 40’s. I’ve been making coffee with a Chemex for many years now and I will readily admit it is the best coffee I’ve ever tasted. I designed the Rugged Chemex Cozy with a rustic feel in mind. But today I want to share with you my Pepperming Chemex Cozy pattern. It is made by first crocheting a rectangle and then cinching it up with ribbon to fit the Chemex. Let me know what you think! (Note: depending upon yarn thickness/fiber, temperature of coffee, quantity in pot, etc, cozy may not prevent you from burning yourself). Pepperming Chemex Cozy

Crochet Pattern: Alora Earrings

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on September 1st, 2015 by Candace – 4 Comments
This pair of crochet earrings is as fun to wear as they are to make. The chain lace is simple yet pretty, and it’s quick to make. The open shape gives you a variety of options when it comes to how to wear them. Place your earwires in different parts of the earring and orient them differently to see how the look changes. For a popular style, try adding a chain to the open ends and dangling them lace side down. crochet_alora_earrings

Crochet Pattern: Rugged Coffeemaker Cozy

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on August 29th, 2015 by Amy Yarbrough – 2 Comments
Are you familiar with Chemex coffee makers? Years ago, our coffee maker died and we set out to find something better. We have been making coffee with a Chemex for a few years now and we agree that it is the best way to make coffee. All it takes is a kettle for warming water and Chemex filters and you have coffee in minutes. Because of its simplistic style I was inspired to make an easy cozy with pure cotton yarn. Let me know what you think! (Note: depending upon yarn thickness/fiber, temperature of coffee, quantity in pot, etc, cozy may not prevent you from burning yourself). Rugged Chemex Cozy
