Free Crochet Pattern: Tunisian Wrist Warmers

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on May 22nd, 2009 by Rachel Choi – 7 Comments
I made these wrist warmers to practice changing colors in Tunisian crochet. Changing colors in crochet is really easy and the same principles still hold when you change colors in Tunisian. I really like the way the colors look especially when you use 3 colors. The best thing about using 3 colors is that when you go to change the color the next color is waiting right there for you, no carrying yarn required! tunisian crochet wristwarmers

If you don’t know how to do Tunisian crochet yet, it’s really fun and you can learn with the Tunisian crochet tutorial.

Crochet Plastic Bag Pattern: Plarn Soap Dish

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on May 19th, 2009 by Rachel Choi – 21 Comments
Crocheting with plastic bags is just like crocheting with any other type of yarn. The only difference is the texture of the material. The soap dish is a very small crochet project to start you off in exploring the world of plarn (plastic yarn). You can use the “How to Make Plarn Tutorial” if you don’t know how to yet! It is fun and a great way to recycle your old plastic grocery bags. plarn soap dish

Note that size can be adjusted by following the instructions within the pattern

Approximately 6 plastic grocery bags, cut into a ball of plarn
Crochet Hook G (4.00 mm)

Row 1: ch 1, sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across: 12 sc

Crochet Pattern: Barbie Summer Tie Top

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on May 17th, 2009 by Rachel Choi – 21 Comments
This top is interestingly made, yet very easy. All you have to do is make two triangles and connect them together. Maybe that sounds weird, but it works! The triangles are connected at the neck by a simple chain and the rest is just wrapped around your doll and held together with a belt. This creates the V-neck in the front and an open back. You can also sew the back or front of the top together if you like, but it’s not required to crochet this awesome summer top for Barbie! barbie summer tie top

Free Crochet Pattern: Hip Pouch / Purse

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on May 11th, 2009 by Rachel Choi – 43 Comments
For the days when your pockets just aren’t big enough and you don’t feel like carrying around a giant purse, the hip pouch comes to the rescue! When I was a kid my mom always carried a hip pouch to put here stuff in because she hated purses. Since then I associated hip pouches with old people (no offense mom, and anyone else). Finally I come to the realization that I can create a hip pouch that isn’t just handy, but it is one that I would actually wear! This hip pouch can also be worn as a small purse if desired. So give this crochet pattern a shot! crochet hip pouch

Crochet Pattern: All Purpose Scrubbie

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on May 6th, 2009 by Rachel Choi – 44 Comments
Here is a scrubbie that is soft enough to shower and wash your face with and still tough enough to clean dirty pots and pans. I wouldn’t recommend using it for all of these at one time, so be sure to make enough to go around. No matter if you are a beginner or an advanced crocheter here is a pattern you can enjoy. It doesn’t take much yarn and can be whipped up fairly quickly. For extra scrubbing power, add some nylon netting. crochet scrubbie

Free Crochet Pattern: Simple Sassy Shrug

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on May 4th, 2009 by Rachel Choi – 35 Comments
With beginner crocheters in mind, here is a shrug that is simple yet sassy. If you can crochet a rectangle then you can easily crochet this. The basic idea is to first crochet a rectangle and then sew up the two ends to form the sleeves. It is just as simple as that! Anyone can fit into this shrug since it can be easily adjusted. Just follow the instructions within the pattern to adjust the sleeves and the length as needed.

Skill Level: beginner crochet skill level

Finished Size: 30” (76 cm) width from end of arm to arm, 10” (25.5 cm) tall from neck to bottom
Note: to alter the size of this shrug, follow the directions within the pattern

Materials:
Medium Weight Yarn (approximately 200 yards)
Crochet Hook J (6.00 mm)
Yarn Needle
Scissors
crochet yarn size 4
crochet shrug
crochet shrug

Crochet Pattern: Shrug
Start by chaining 28 or a chain that fits around the largest part of your arm
Row 1: ch 2, dc in third ch from hook and in each ch across: 28 dc
Row 2 – 42: ch 2, turn, dc in each dc across: 28 dc
Finish off.

Note: If the shrug is not the width that you desire (from the end of one sleeve to the other), continue to repeat the last row in the pattern.

To create sleeves, fold your work in half such that each row is folded in half. Starting at one end, sew piece together until you have sewed the length of 12 rows. Sew together the same length on the other side for the second sleeve. If you chose to alter the size of this shrug you may also want to alter the length of each sleeve.

If you need help crocheting this shrug, just leave a comment and I would be glad to help!
