Guinness World Records for Crochet

Posted in Fun Ramblings on July 5th, 2017 by Rachel Choi – Be the first to comment

Recently I posted about the Guinness World Record for the longest crocheted scarf that was recently achieved. While searching through the website, I realized that there are a bunch of fun crochet records. Some are amazing and some are downright silly! Either way, I’m glad the crochet community is being represented. In this post I rounded up a few of the records. Maybe you will be the next record holder?

Guinness World Record: Longest Crocheted Scarf

Posted in Fun Ramblings, News on June 30th, 2017 by Rachel Choi – 2 Comments

What’s the longest scarf you have ever crocheted? I bet it isn’t as long as the world’s longest scarf! Recently a group, Mother India Crochet Queens in Chennai, India made a new Guinness World Records for the longest crocheted scarf. The scarf measured 46,223 ft 9 in (14.089 km). An average scarf is about 5 to 6 feet long. Here is a photo from the Guinness World Record showing the scarf displayed in layers on a open field.

Review: Stash2Go App

Posted in Fun Ramblings on June 24th, 2017 by Candace – 3 Comments

I’m trying to be better about logging my projects and stash on Ravelry, but the idea of having to transfer photos to my computer or use the site on a mobile device just doesn’t do it for me. Plus, I tend to get sidetracked when browsing Ravelry from my laptop. But after searching through knitting and crochet apps, I found Stash2Go, and I think it and I will have a great relationship.

First: The cost. You can get the free “Lite” version on Android and iOS. The ads that keep it free are not at all intrusive. The full version is currently $5.99 for Apple devices, $6.99 for Android, and $6.41 for Amazon (Lite is not available from Amazon’s store). The Lite version, which is what I have on my Android phone, is packed with essential features and little extras.

Taking a Chance on Doilies

Posted in Fun Ramblings, News on June 8th, 2017 by A Guest Writer – 1 Comment

A Guest Post by Suzann Thompson.

At a textile art exhibit, an acquaintance said to me, “I have all these doilies from my grandmother, but I don’t really know what to do with them.”

That casual comment from a few years ago is largely responsible for Celebrate Doilies! which is a traveling exhibit of doily art, poetry, and heritage, debuting in July 2017 in Stephenville, Texas.

Do You Wear Crochet Scarves in the Spring and Summer?

Posted in Fun Ramblings on April 15th, 2017 by Rachel Choi – Be the first to comment

Scarves aren’t just for the cold winter months. If you love scarves you can wear them all year around regardless of the weather. The key is to choose a scarf pattern that is light and airy for the warmer months and bulky and warm for the colder months. Scarves are wonderful for accessorizing and adding a pop of color and texture to an outfit.

But how many of us actually wear scarves in the spring and summer? Do you? Do you tend to only use them as a necessity during the cold winter months or do you actually love them so much you will wear them all year around? Share you thoughts in the comments below and see what others are saying!

P.S. Feel free to check out the crochet scarf page for patterns!

Posted in Fun Ramblings, News on March 31st, 2017 by Rachel Choi – 1 Comment

Recently we discussed different charities that we all crochet for, and one of the activities mentioned was crocheting plarn (plastic yarn) mats for the homeless. So I wanted to share this fantastic video that I came across where prisoners crocheted plastic mats for the homeless as well.

If you are interested in using up your grocery bags to crochet mats for the homeless, feel free to check out our free plarn tutorial to get started creating your plastic strips. Once you have your plarn made, you can crochet single or even double crochet rows to create your mat!

What Charity Do You Crochet For?

Posted in Fun Ramblings on March 10th, 2017 by Rachel Choi – 32 Comments

When I first started crocheting, I realized that a large portion of the crochet community crochets for charity. Whether its making baby hats for a local hospital, or mats for the homeless, there seems to be countless ways to contribute.

In this post, I would love to discuss what charity you enjoy crocheting for.

  • What charity do you crochet for?
  • What items do you like to make for charity?
  • How percentage of your crochet projects go to charity?
  • Do you crochet for more than one charity?

Share your thoughts and join the discussion in the comments below!

If you don’t already crochet for charity, but would like to get involved, feel free to check out our Charity Page to find a charity to crochet for!
