A Guest Post by Katie Grace.

Boy Oh Boy! What to crochet for a boy? All I know is, if I am going to spend all that time crocheting a sweater for my son, I want him to LOVE it, not just tolerate it. And I want the design to capture all the qualities that make having him around fun.

Posted in Fun Ramblings on November 12th, 2010 by Rachel Choi – 22 Comments

Does anyone every crochet anything for Thanksgiving or do you skip right to Christmas? Or if you celebrate neither, is there a holiday you like to crochet for around this time of the year?

I’m asking, become I’m working on a few patterns, and was wondering what you would like to see. Anything holiday related? Perhaps some fun decor for the holidays or more gifts to put under the tree?

Let me know what you’re crocheting or would like to crochet for the holidays!

Gosip Girl Leighton Meester’s Crocheted Dress

Posted in Fun Ramblings, News on November 10th, 2010 by Rachel Choi – 32 Comments

Recently, Leighton Meester an actress you may recognize from the TV series Gossip Girl, was spotted at a movie premiere with a crocheted dress by Marc Jacobs. This dress received some negative feedback in the press, ranging from being too revealing to too odd of a combination. How many outfits have you seen that combine a gold breast plate with a crocheted bottom?

I love seeing folks wear crocheted clothing, but not so much when it makes crocheted clothes look bad. Crochet clothes in general are fun to make and wear! What do you think about this outfit? If anything, what would you do differently?

Social Networking and Crochet

Every time I log on Facebook I ‘run’ to the Crochet Spot page to check out who ‘likes’ the newest posts and if anyone has posted a new photo of something they have made from a pattern on Crochet Spot.

I’ve been pleased as a plum to see a few of my patterns reproduced on Facebook! Have you shared finished projects and crochet tips/ideas on Facebook?

There are some naysayers in the world who say that social networking is the downfall of society. I think the total opposite, rather than a downfall it’s one of the greatest resources in the history of humanity! Ideas can be freely shared, people can build businesses, social existences, share stories and experiences. Crocheting has become an even more popular craft and hobby due to the popularity of crochet patterns and instructions on the internet.

Social network and crochet at the same time, become a fan of the Crochet Spot Facebook Page!

Do You Say Treble or Triple Crochet?

Posted in Fun Ramblings, Tutorials and Help on November 4th, 2010 by Rachel Choi – 28 Comments
Crochet stitches can be confusing at times. Especially since the name of stitches can be different depending where you are in the world or how you are taught. The treble crochet stitch (or triple, if that’s how you say it) is a good example of a stitch with 2 different names. You may notice on Crochet Spot that we like to use treble, just because this is what we’re used to. But I’ve been told that “treble” is the old school name, while triple is the more modern name. What do you think?

Do you say treble or triple crochet? It would be fun to find out if one name is more popular than another!

A Family Legacy of Crochet

My Grandmother was an expert at crochet. Her beautiful afghans won first place every year at our state fair in her age category. When she passed, there was a basket next to her rocking chair with her current project lying on top.

$500 Crocheted Socks?!

Posted in Fun Ramblings, News on October 27th, 2010 by Rachel Choi – 24 Comments

I got a good laugh after a Crochet Spot reader told me about the most expensive hand crocheted socks by Rodarte. Selling for $500, these netted styled socks are made of silky mohair. Due to the fine yarn that is used, these socks can not be washed, instead it is to be spot cleaned. I’m not sure who would actually purchase these socks, would you buy them?

Check out this quick video to learn more about the socks:

What do you think about these $500 crocheted socks?

Have You Crocheted Food?

Posted in Fun Ramblings on October 18th, 2010 by Emilee Gettle – 12 Comments
As a child I fondly remember one afternoon my mom out of desperation tried to convince me that I needed a nap. She told me it would be worth it and there would be a surprise when I woke up. After fighting the idea, I finally gave in. A couple hours later when I rubbed my sleepy eyes I saw a slice of pizza, an Oreo cookie and hamburger and bun, complete with a pickle waiting for me. She had crocheted everything. It was my most memorable nap. When I woke up I thought the shut-eye was well worth it!

Have you ever crocheted play food just for the fun of it?

Do You Crochet For Your Pets?

Who hasn’t seen a cute pooch prancing down the sidewalk sporting a sweater as the weather turns cooler? These pampered pups have a lot going for them, especially if their momma is a crochet queen! There is a pattern for every dog, from everyday wear to costumes for the holidays! After seeing a few of these privileged doggies pass my way this week, I wondered if any of you crochet for your pets?
