Crochet Hook Used for Surgery
By Rachel Choi – 7 CommentsDr. Peter Lawrence, chief of vascular surgery at UCLA, developed a new technique to get rid of varicose veins. More interestingly, this technique uses a small crochet hook to help remove the veins. This is a minimally invasive and non-scarring procedure called light-assisted stab phlebectomy (lasp). Who ever thought that crochet hooks would be used for more than just crochet?
Have you ever seen or used crochet hooks for something other than crocheting? |
Woah! Thats really weird, yet kinda cool 😀
I’ve never seen or used crochet hooks for anything other than crocheting.
Hi, Rachel. I use a small crochet hook all the time for fixing sweater snags – pushing the hook from the underside, grabbing the snag and pulling it to the inside – voila, no nasty-looking snag. But surgery? No, not yet… ;>}
There used to be a home hair highlighting kit with a cap with featuring a multitude of tiny holes. One used a crochet hook — that also came with the kit — to draw strands of hair through the holes.
Sounds like a good idea on the surface. Unfortunately the nylon cap made one sweat like crazy. Sweaty dirty hair doesn’t take dye well.
Hi,
Several times I have used a crochet hook to retrieve the elastic band in the waist of my son’s pants! Explanation… pants/jeans for young children can be purchased, not just with an elastic waist, but with two elastic bands (one on each side) so that you can adjust the waistline. These elastic bands have holes in them that are held tight by buttons. But, if the elastic comes loose, it often becomes lost inside the hole in the pant waist. I insert a crochet hook inside the hole and fish around until I catch one of the holes in the elastic. Voila!

now knitting needles they have a whole secret life.(not only used for knitting)
I’ve used it to slide pennies out from under the piano keys after little kids were visiting and dropped them into the keyboard. Also to gently get some crumbs out of my computer keyboard keys.
