Crochet Pattern: Bookworm Bookmark
By Emilee Gettle – 11 CommentsIt’s hard to believe that summer is winding down. Since it’s back to school time, I thought a bookmark would be the perfect project. This little bookworm will keep your place in the latest read or textbook. You can make him as short or long as you want. You could also make each little medallion, that makes up his wiggly body, a different color. I’m going to use this same little worm as an applique on baby blankets and toddler shirts too. This little guy is so versatile and a snap to make! There are a million and one variations and A+ applications. Have fun! |

Medallions
Round 1: ch 6, sl st in first chain made to form a ring, ch 3, 14 dc into ring, sl st in top of beginning ch-3: 14 dc
Finish off.
Make 6 medallions for the bookworm’s body.
Finishing: It’s time to put the bookworm’s body together. I like to join the sides together with 3 sl st for extra security.
Antenna
Row 1: sl st into a dc on head, ch 8: 8 ch
Row 2: sc in second from hook, sc in next ch, sl st in next ch: 3 sts
finish off.
Eyes and Smile
I used 6 strand embroidery floss to add an eye and smile to my book worm. You can make an eye by doing a french knot embroidery stitch or cross stitch. The smile was made by backstitching or you could use a running stitch. Then tie off.
I love your comments and I would like to hear how you customized this little bookworm. If you need help, feel free to ask a question and I’ll respond as soon as possible! Have fun and happy crocheting!
Cute, without looking at the title first, I thought it was a necklace!
I thought it was a necklace too – I bet it could be tailored to be. It is super cute! 🙂
What a cute little project!
I see a necklace, bracelet and earring to match a book mark as a gift for a reader girl! Thanks for the cute pattern!
I have a bunch of the Bernat Baby Coordinates in my stash – it has that metallic thread through it – would work out perfect for making a matching set – bracelet, necklace, earrings for my 4 year old grand daughter. Thanks for such a versatile pattern.

Cute but looks like necklace and tough to use in book!
Perfect timing! I was just thinking I should start looking for a small gift for each of my book club buddies for Christmas. Now I know exactly what to buy–no, even better, MAKE!!
Hi – so cute, thanks for sharing! Can’t wait to try this out with both my daughter and son, we are all bookworms so this will be a very useful item to make!
Hi, I want tofeast called Sinterklaas. I tell you, I made your bookmark. We, here in Holland have on the 5th of December a feast called Sinterklaas. We give eachother presents, with a little poem. I made this one for a girl who loves pink very much, so my bookworm is in two pink coleurs.
Thank you for sharing this cute little fellow.

I made the 6 medallions, but I am not sure how to put them together. It says 3 slip stitches, but I am not sure you mean 3 slip stitches, then cut the thread or somehow continue around. Please help.
