Crochet Pattern: Change Purse
By Rachel Choi – 27 CommentsHere is a quick yet dainty change purse! Make it is as a gift or just for yourself. Since this is a small project not much yarn is needed. I love this!! Adding it to my To Make list.
Rachel, this is so cute! I have a little granddaughter who is having her 6th birthday in a couple of weeks who would just love carrying her little “girly” items in such a sweet purse.
Thank you for posting!
Rachel, this is soooo cute. Great for child to adult.
Thank you.
Sherry
What a darling little purse. I already have two little girls in mind. who will love them Thanks. Dottie
I just love this little purse. You are so talented. Thank you Debbie
Thank you, Rachel! Just what I need, I always have loose change all over inside my purse. I will make a green one for my sis and purple one for myself tomorrow!
Rachel, I really enjoy your blog and have tried a few things (I am a beginner) so haven’t done much. I tried this change purse but got lost after making the first row of single crochet. This is the part I did not understand:
working into remaining loops on opposite side of ch, sc in each ch across, place marker: 36 sc
Are you supposed to turn it first?
Thanks,
Marilyn
P.S. If I have a question on an older post, do I go to that post to ask the question, like I did here?
Hi Marilyn, each chain has a top and bottom loop. When you do your single crochets into the chain, you normally do them into the top loop of the chain. So to work into the remain loops of the chain refers to working into the bottom loops of each chain. You do turn your work to work into these remaining loops. When you are done this round, you will have crocheted in a circular fashion with your last stitch next to the first stitch you made.
If you ever have a question about a particular pattern, feel free to leave your question of that pattern’s post like you did here.
Gahh. I want to make this so badly. I’m a beginner and I think I understand crochet fairly well as of now. I know single crochet and double and how to make something circular…things of that nature. I’ve read and reread the directions a ton of times but I can’t for the life of me figure out how to make it work. I think where I get stuck is like the previous commenter said.. the working into opposite loops. I read your response but I still cant figure it out. I guess I don’t understand what I’m supposed to be doing or having a hard time visualizing it. I guess I dont know how it’s supposed to be in a round. Oy. I honestly don’t know what to ask you to clarify it’s just frustrating because it doesn’t look difficult to me, it looks like something I can do at this point but I just can’t figure it out. 🙁 If anybody has any advice please let me know.
Thanks! I love your site by the way
Hi Lindsay, check out this post I just wrote (it has pics): How to Crochet on Opposite Side of Chain
Hi Rachel. I made a couple of these change purses. I changed the pattern a bit. They came out great!! Thanks for the pattern.
Hi Rachel,
Thanks for this pattern! I made three pieces of them. I doubled the length size so that I can put in my glasses instead!
Hi! I love this pattern, but I’m confused about how to do Row 18 [turn, (ch 4, skip 2 dc, sl st in next dc): 6 times]. Are there any pictures I could follow? (I’m a beginner-level crocheter, so there are some things I’m still learning.) Thanks.
Hi Gina, I don’t have pics at the moment, so I’ll try to explain the row to you futher. For row 18, you are going to chain 4, then skip the next 2 double crochets on the row, then make a slip stitch in the next double crochet. Repeat those steps 6 times. This is what makes the flap design.
I added a shoulder strap to one of these little coin purses for my great granddaughter in Holland,The Netherlands..She will love it..She is 3 1/2 years old and is her moither’s daughter,,loves the purses and shoes and clothes.I am making me one like it, but bigger.
I love this site.
I’m doing a necklace with a double base chain. Can you give me instruction on doing a double base chain? Please…thanks…
Hi Leah, I don’t have a necklace pattern at the moment, but I do have a headband pattern that you can adjust that is double stringed. It is in the Crochet Pattern: Classic Headband Set.
i made a SUPER easy version of this. i made the pocket dbl crochet and slip stich the bottom closed. then i used the elastic cording and a zip button to close it. (my best description of the zip button is the button on the ends of elastic cords that you slide up and down to adjust the sizing.)
This is totally cute!!!
I am trying this but just get one big circle/oval, should I have closed it somewhere (connect the 2 ends)?
Hi Shirley, after each round be sure that you are not turning your work to make the next round. You should be crocheting in the round like a continuous spiral so that no joining is needed at the end. Let me know if that clarifies it or if you need more help.
This is soooo cute!! My mom does a breast cancer fundraiser in October and I will be making these for all of the volunteers! They work up so quickly, it’s awesome!
I tried your pattern and love it .It work up quickly 20 minutes or less .THANKS
Hi Rachel – I’ve tried making this and I can’t seem to get them to come out in the same measurements you give. What am I doing wrong? I’m following the pattern as written and for some reason it’s coming out too big. Suggestions?
Hi Bea, be sure to check the gauge that’s in the pattern. The gauge will tell you if you need to adjust your hook size or not. Here’s more information about gauges if you need it: What the Heck is a Gauge?
This one is SOOO pretty! Thank you for the pattern!
I love the little coin purse-easy and attractive. Perfect for small scraps of yarn. Will make for daughters and granddaughters for Christmas. It will make a nice little inexpensive but very thoughtful gift. I appreciate you and your hard work and thanks for sharing!
