Crochet Pattern: Crazy Ruffle Ring

Unlike typical chunky fashion rings, this ring is light, soft and fluffy (never thought I’d say that about a ring) since it’s crocheted entirely with size 10 thread. Feel free to crochet this ring with any 2 of your favorite colors.
Finished Size: 1 1/2″ (4 cm) in diameter ruffle, ring size can be adjusted using the instructions within the pattern. |

Materials: Size 10 thread – small amount of Color A (black in photo) and Color B (white in photo) Crochet Hook US 1 (2.35 mm) Sewing needle Stitch marker |

Gauge: rounds 1 – 3 in ruffle pattern measure 1 1/2″ in diameter

Crochet Pattern: Crazy Ruffle Ring
Ring:
Round 1: with color A, ch 15 or a chain that fits loosely around the intended finger, sl st in first ch forming a ring being careful not to twist chain
Round 2: ch 1, sc in each ch around, sl st in first sc made joining to beginning of round
Finish off.
Ruffle:
Round 1: with color A, start with a magic adjustable ring, 24 dc in ring, place marker: 24 dc
Round 2: 6 dc in each dc around, changing to color B in last dc made: 144 dc
Round 3: sc in each dc around: 144 sc
Finish off. Sew ruffle to ring.

what do u mean by “place marker” in the first round of the ruffle?
Celina, here is an explanation of using markers in this post: All About Stitch Markers in Crochet
Check out the “Markers in the Round” section. Basically you’re going to put the marker on the loop on your hook so you know where to end the next round (when you reach the marker).

Hiya Rachel. I am having trouble with the yarn used.
Ravelry says ‘thread’ isn’t really any number of plies. Yet I have researched crochet cotton 10 online and apparently that is 3ply? (One listing says is was 2ply). You can understand my frustration!
Crochet cotton is quite difficult for me to get hold of unless it is online, is there any alternative? Like double knit and a 1mm hook? :=)
Hi Kit, size 10 thread is the same weight that most doilies are made of (if that helps). Although that’s what I used to create the ring in the photo, you can actually use any thread and hook you like, just adjust the size of the thread or hook to make the size ring you want.
It may look a little like a cocktail ring if I use DK. I have just been to my local craft store and I’ve found two balls that say No.10 on them. It’s looking god so far.

I made a couple of these to match my granddaughter’s favorite pink and purple outfit but I made the “ring” just large enough to put a shoe lace through. I slid one to the center of each shoe lace before lacing her shoes. She loves her “fower”s and is now actually eager to wear her shoes. Thanks for the inspiration.
Just about to start making this ring. Can’t wait to see how I do! It’s my first time using crochet thread and numbered, as opposed to lettered, hooks. I thought I would point out, though, that your material list says that the 1 hook is a 2.35mm, but my 1 hook says 2.75mm. I’m going to use it anyway, so I hope it still works! 🙂
I love this pattern! It’s adorable. I’m just a little confused on the magic ring part. Can anyone help me?
I would love to try this, but have never crocheted with any type of thread before. Would it be possible to use yarn instead of thread to make these rings or would it turn out to be too big? I would imagine you would have to use a fairly small hook if you could use yarn, do you think a F or E hook would work? Would appreciate any thoughts in this idea. Thank You!
Hi Penny, yes, it will turn out bigger if you use yarn. Even if you use a smaller hook, it will still turn out to be bigger than the thread version. If you don’t mind a larger ring, go for it! Also, there is always a first time for everything, you can try to crochet with thread if you’d like 🙂
What is a Magic Adjustable Ring I am supposed to start with on the flower round?

In the second round do we chain anything.
There’s no need to chain. It is crocheted in the round, like a spiral.
