You can use it as a fridgie, glue a magnet to the back and stick it to your refrigerator, or perhaps as a pin for your shirt or hat. It also makes a great coaster! Hi Rachel,
Have you felted this clover? I want to make a felted purse for my daughter’s 4-H leader and thought I’d add this as an emblishment. It looks really easy to crochet, lucky for me as I just learned how to crochet, I’ve been a die-hard knitter for many years. Thanks for the great pattern.

      Hi Aimee!

I haven’t tried felting it. But I bet it would turn out awesome if you did. Let me know how it goes. The cloves would make a great embellishment!

  7. shyg says:

dear rachel, i have trouble with joining all the pieces… could you help me, because… the joining seems bad… i mean the clover is not stiff…

    Thanks

  8. Rachel says:

    Hey Shyg!

when I joined mine I sewed the bottom corner of all the leaves together and a small part of the edges that are close to the center. The more of the edges you sew together the less flimsy your clover will be. But be sure to not sew too much of edges together or else the clove might look like a bowl. It also may be easier to sew one leaf on at a time.

Also, I used a pretty small hook to make the clover more stiff, if you used a bigger hook that might be why it’s not that stiff.

I hope that helps some! 🙂

thank you so much for the st. patrick’s day pattern for me. I really appreciate. I read the directions and will take no time at all. I am also looking for Santa crochet hats. Of course any St. patrick’s day hats, there has been some with the tam, i like that, but most of them are missing the front piece like a baseball cap.
thanks for all your time and efforts.

Have a Great Year!!!

pattern instructions? Never saw instructions for pieces and no finish.
Never did a magnate before either?????
    Very interesting!

  22. Helene M Hofmeister says:

Did not see bottom check off ’til I sent comment…..looking for final
pattern instructions and magnate info. Thanks HMH

    • Rachel says:

Hi Helene, after you crochet the 4 pieces and the stem you cans sew them together using the photo as a guide. If you want to add a magnet you can glue it to the back after you sew it together.

  23. Helene M Hofmeister says:

    Thank you……any old glue? HMH

  25. Kathryn H says:

Hey rachel! My boyfriend is very irish and i want to make him a big blanket with the clover in the middle as a centerpiece for the blanket. how would you suggest on making the pattern bigger?! And do you think there is any way to put one of the smaller shamrocks inside the front of the hat and then place the front of the hat in a blanket?! lots of fun ideas 🙂

    • Rachel says:

Hi Kathryn, you can try and crochet the shamrock with a larger crochet hook along with a thicker weight of yarn or more than one strand of yarn held together. I’m not sure what you mean by putting a hat on the blanket, but you can sew more than one shamrock on top of another or place it on anything you’d like.

  26. Victor R says:

  29. Marjorie says:

I did 3 leaves in blue to look like the Girl Guide symbol for my stepdaughter’s camp. I also shortened the tail. The children trade them and sew them on as appliques. I got lazy because I was making tons of them, so I actually did them as one piece – crocheting down one side of each leaf.

    They look awesome.

  34. Abra Kirk says:

Hi Rachel! I was wondering if I would be allowed to use this pattern for an event at a shop I work at for our social night. We had thought it would be fun to have a shamrock competitions with knitters and crocheters, by seeing who can make the most clovers in 3 hours. We were wanting to find a free crochet pattern for the crocheters and for the knitters. We were not going to make kits for this event, just the pattern and yarn for those who would be participating. This will not be a charged event, just a show up and do. The winners get a prize at the end. So asking here from the Stringtopia Studio, do we have permission to use this pattern for our fun event?

    • Rachel Choi says:

Hi Abra, thanks for asking, I really appreciate it! Yes, you have my permission to use this pattern for your event. Please print the pattern as it is written on the webpage (all pages on the site are printer friendly), so that the Crochet Spot logo and url are on the page. I hope you have a great time at your event!

About 6 months before my dad passed away he received his adoption papers and we all found out he was Irish American. I am going to make some of these for my sisters and myself. They are really cute and easy to make. Thanks!

  37. Lisa says:

Thanks for the fun pattern. It was a cinch to make. I’ve only been crocheting for just over a year and found it very easy. I made one as a coaster for my dad since he has an Irish heritage and is all about all-things-Irish. Will definitely be making more for my own home. Thanks, again!
