Here’s a great project for a constant reminder of summer. This cute keychain is easy, quick, and fun to make. It’s a great instant gratification project that will go everywhere you do once it’s finished.

Skill Level:

Finished Size: 2.25″ (6 cm) diameter

Materials: Light Weight Yarn (12 yards) Crochet Hook 4 (1.75 mm) 1/8 in. (3mm) Ribbon (3.5 in., optional) Sewing Thread (optional) Sewing Needle or Glue(optional)

Gauge:
9 sc = 1’’
10 rows = 1’’

Crochet Pattern: Mini Sun Hat Keychain
Note: The ch 1 at the beginning of each round counts as the first sc.
Round 1: Make an adjustable ring, ch 1, 5 sc into ring, sl st into beginning ch-1 to join rnd : 6 sc
Round 2: ch 1, sc into first st, 2 sc in remaining sc around, sl st into beginning ch-1 to join rnd: 12 sc
Round 3: ch 1, sc into first st, 2 sc in remaining sc around, sl st into beginning ch-1 to join rnd: 24 sc
Rounds 4-8: ch 1, skip first st, 1 sc in remaining sc around, sl st into beginning ch-1 to join rnd: 24 sc
Round 9: ch1, sc into first st, 2 sc into remaining sc around, sl st into beginning ch-1 to join rnd: 48 sc
Round 10: ch 1, skip first st, 1 sc in remaining sc around, sl st into beginning ch-1 to join rnd: 48 sc
Round 11: ch1, sc into first st, sc, (2sc in next st, sc in next sc) in remaining sc around, sl st into beginning ch-1 to join rnd: 72 sc
Round 12: ch 1, skip first st, 1 sc in remaining sc around, sl st into beginning ch-1 to join rnd: 72 sc

Finish off and weave in ends (weaving in and out of the stitches from the last round helps shape the hat brim and make it less floppy so it requires less blocking).

Sew or glue on the ribbon to make a hat band (optional).
