Crochet Pattern: Youthful Striped Bag
By Rachel Choi – 12 Comments
I love carrying my yarn in this very bright bag! Just looking at it makes me full of energy. This bag is very easy and simple to crochet. It’s great for teens since the colors give it a youthful look. But feel free to play with the colors to make your own look with it.

That is Really cute:) I have never made a bag yet so I may just have to try!!
Thanks! I hope you do try it! Let me know how it goes 🙂
Rachel,
I was watching someone on the “create” channel or maybe it was Martha Stewart but they lined their bag with different colors of electrical tape (sticky side to the fabric). They then sewed or crocheted the sides. This gave it a bit of waterproofing and helped it from stretching. You bag is really cute; going to try to make it next week.
I admire your creativity. Had heart failure and starting over again. So I am excited to be creating little items. Thank you for sharing some very pretty designs.

Rachel,
As soon as I saw this pattern I thought of the purse that you made out of plarn. I think this would be a great bag to try in plarn for use as a reusable shopping bag – waterproof, durable.
Pleasse help I am fairly new to crocheting and want to make this bag, but I am not understanding how the bottom of the bag is made.
Any helpful tips to your pattern will be greatly appreciated as soon as you can.
Thank you so much. I look forward to hearing from you.
Hi Lori, the bottom of the bag is made by crocheting a foundation chain and then crocheting across it, and then crocheting onto the opposite side of it. Here is a tutorial that explains the technique in more detail: How to Crochet on Opposite Side of Chain
Hey I have a quick question. Anytime I make a bag it slowly stretches out to be massive! How do I fix that?
Hi Taylor, if your bag stretches too much when you use it, you can line the inside of your bag with cloth.
I never thought of that! thanks =D
Hello!
I have crocheted this bag about three times now. For some reason my color change areas are really obvious because, there is a jagged line with the colors clashing. How can I get rid of this uneven line?
Try slip stitching at the end of the round to join the beginning and end of the round together, before you change to the next color.
Hi.. I’m new to the crochet. Can u tell me wat this gauge part refers to?? I know its a very basic question but I really find it difficult to understand.
