Crochet Patterns: Dishcloths, Washcloths, and Cleaning Cloths

By Rachel Choi – 8 Comments

Have you ever tried crocheting your own dishcloths, washcloths or other cleaning cloths? If you have, you just might be hooked on them! The feel of a handmade cloth is like nothing else. They can be customized to be any size, shape and color that you want. They’re extremely sturdy and can be washed and reused over and over again.

What’s the difference between dishcloth, washcloth and other cleaning cloth patterns? There really isn’t any difference. You can crochet any of the cloth patterns and decide later what you want to use it for, whether it’s washing dishes, the counter tops, your face and body, or even the car. In this post I rounded up a few of the cleaning cloth patterns that we have here on Crochet Spot.

I really like to crochet dishcloths. They make fabulous gifts for brides-to-be.

I use crocheted dishcloths everyday. I make them for my two daughters, they also love using them. I usually have several made up ahead for a quick gift.

Some of those patterns are really nice, but I wouldn’t think of putting so much work into making something so pretty and then using them to wash greasy dishes – I would use them as doilies and decorations instead.

That’s a great idea to use them as doilies! I also like to use them as face cloths, they are so soft (depending on the yarn you use). I try to reserve the older crocheted cloths for the greasy dishes. There are also some I make just for scrubbing dishes and even the bathroom. They use nylon netting, and I find them to be even better at scrubbing than anything I’ve found in the store.

My friend crochets dishcloths (mostly round ones) and then hangs them on her wall for decoration. Her whole dining room wall is a display. It’s actually really pretty! I myself have never done this, but I may crochet my mom a mandala and then have it framed for her birthday.
