Do All Crocheters Have Cats?
By Rachel Choi – 255 Comments| I always thought that the correlation between crocheters and cats was just a myth, until I started to realize that a lot of my crochet friends have cats. Even I have a cat!
Is it just a coincide or do most crocheters have a cat? Maybe cats are just popular to have as a pet. Or perhaps, crocheters are more fond of a cat companion since they both like yarn. |

Let’s have an experiment to find out once and for all if there really is a correlation between cats and crocheters! This is by far, not a real scientific experiment, but will sure be fun to take part in.
So the question is, are you a crocheter? And do you have a cat? Leave a comment to share!
I’m a dog person. I like cats, but I’m allergic. I probably would have one if it weren’t for the allergies 🙂

I crochet and have a cat, but my sister and grandmother both crochet (ed – my grandmother died in 1993) and do/did not have cats.
I have cat allergies, but I still do cat rescue. I’m well medicated (Alavert) I have 4 of my own and 1 foster cat at this time. So every project I work has some cat hair in it (or mine).
Hi! Rachel ~ 🙂 I’m Lovin2crochet and a cat lover, and have 2 indoor kitties, DaisyMay and Tigger. Then we have our outdoor kitties, Sugar, who we’ve always been *blessed*?? with her litters of kittens when she brings then to us ~ she’s the neighborhood stray, but looks like we’re her adoptive parents. We’re fixin’ to do some fixin’ at the vets here shortly, too! :>) The *kids* are Pinto, Bucky, Tippy and Peanut (who now has 2 kits of her own). Having cats as pets works best for hubby and me since we travel quite a bit ~ :>)
I crochet but don’t have a cat, i would have one but almost everyone i know is allergic to cats 🙁

I don’t have a cat, but there are about 7 cats who love to come and poop in my yard and garden. Maybe if I had a cat like all crocheters are supposed to they would leave my yard alone!

I have always had at least one cat at a time, one for almost 15 years. Now I also have a couple of dogs for the kids, but the cat is the only one allowed to come in the house.
Nope. I can’t really stand cats. I’m more a dog person. (I have a teacup chihuahua lol)

Nope, I’m a dog person. I have two dogs a pug and a boxer! I think the boxer sometimes thinks she is a cat though because she LOVES to get into my yarn stash. Fun for her, bad for me lol.
I have 11 cats, 1 dog, 1 bunny, 1 chicken and 3 pigeons.

I have a cat (and a dog, too!) and whenever I sit down to crochet, it’s kitty’s cue to jump in my lap!

I crochet a lot but I can’t stand cats, never have. My grandmother taught me to crochet when I was 7/8 and she coudn’t stand cats either.

I love my dog, and I do like cats, but I’m a pretty hardcore crocheter here to tell you I don’t have a cat and I probably never will. If this were a scientific poll, I wonder what the results would be… Are crocheters more likely than the average person to own cats…? 😀
Of course I have a cat. It owns me and is a Ragdoll cat. I also have 2 Golden Retrievers as my boss. I do all kinds of sewing, crochet, knitting, etc. My pets are part seamstress and yarn addicts.
I have a cat named Kitty one of a litter of ten! Her favorite past time only when I’m crocheting or knitting is to jump up and get relaxed on my lap! Feels good but kinda uncomfortable when trying to unwind balls of yarn!!!!
I would love to have little kitten to keep me company while I crochet, but my dad is highly allergic. If he wasn’t, I would definately have one!

I love to crochet and yes we have cats. Getting a cat 16 years ago opened the “door” to getting other animals. A cat led to getting a dog, next was a rabbit, then more rabbits and then the rabbits had babies. Now we have horses, llamas, goats (including 3 newborn goats), dogs, and 5 cats, one with 4 kittens and another is pregnant. I’ve been crocheting for about 13 years. Thankfully, our cats usually leave my yarn alone, even if she is laying on my lap while I crochet. Of course, I make sure that the yarn is not tempting her as I crochet.
I don’t have a cat now, but used to have 10 cats… They were adorable!
Major animal lover here! Ten cats, two German Shepherds, chickens, ducks, etc., etc…. Can’t live without ’em. I prefer my yarn and other art supplies remain unchewed and unplayed with by anyone but me. Still, my furry family is my priority!
I think it would be fair to say the vast majority of crocheters are also animal lovers. It’s probably a cuddly tactile thing. I don’t have a cat, but I have a 10 pound Yorkie who loves to snuggle in my crochet projects!

I’ve been crocheting for many years and have had many different types of pets:) Have to say my faves are the kitties:) Used to have some indoors, but due to my husband’s asthma getting worse, had to put everyone outdoors:( However, they are still just as “spoiled” outside as they were inside:) We have had a few litters, given some away, yet still have 13 to enjoy:) They range from 3 weeks to five years old:) We also have a Huskey dog outside:) I agree with Dina, it’s probly a tactile thing for us right brainers:) It is fun to read all the comments. I am a crocheter and knitter and I have 3 cats and 2 dogs although 15 cats in total live in my house at this time.
Yes, as a crocheter, & stitcher… I have a cat… I would have more, but I’m getting ready to move in with my mother & take care of her. But then again. She has a cat.. so I guess I’ll be up to 2 cats soon enough.

I feel like a newcomer crocheter (which I am not at all!). But I didn’t realize that though the custom picture of crocheting/knitting with kitties playing with the yarn ball, suggested that we all have cats.
I can’t imagine ever even living or surviving with dear kitties around me. I have two cats now (though I don’t play with either of them with my yarn balls!). ;o)

Wow, what response to this question! I have three elderly cats, Willy-One-Eye, Snowball (black cat with one small sprinkle of white) and Cleo. If I had my way, I would have a dozen to play in the yarn with me! Sandy
Yes, I crochet (and knit, too!), and have a cat called Louis, a lovely tabby who was brought to us as a kitten one summer morning by his mum, a little black stray who disappeared shortly afterwards, never to be seen again. We often think of her and hope she is OK, and are very grateful to her for her lovely gift. We like other peoples’ dogs but not enough to want one of our own!
I don’t have a cat, I’m allergic and so is my husband. But we do have a dog that likes to play with yarn. It’s actually the only toy he’ll play with.

I crochet and I have 2 shelter rescue cats. They only go after yarn that I splurge on – they leave the cheaper stuff alone.
I only have one cat at the moment but I have had as many was 13. Perhaps it is something to do with crochet being soothing and comforting and cats go right along with that. My cat loves to get my yarn, so much so that I made her a special ‘stitchy, stringy thing’ so that she has her own yarn to safely play with. Her name is Lilly.
