Wonderful, easy pattern. Ive been looking for something for my oldest daughter to use to hold feminine supplies in her backpack, but easy enough to grab should she need it. She fell in love with this pattern asking “mom can you make it big enough?”, with the instructions built into the pattern already, I knew I could. I have just finished round 4 and Im loving the way this is turning out.

    Hi Rachel

I love your pattern!! This will be my second project since I’ve learn to croche. Could you help me with aome information?

    I’ve made a chain of 8
Round 1: I’ve chained 2, in 3rd chain from the hook I double croche (shoud it be in both loops??) then I double croche in each ch across and next….? Not sure how to dc in each ch on opposite side of foundation ch and how in the end I’ll have 16 st?

Please don’t laugh, but I’ve just started.

    Many thanks

    • Rachel says:

      Hey Persephonna!
You should do your double crochet in one loop instead of both loops (at least for the first round the other rounds you can do as you please). To double crochet on the “opposite side” of the chain. You do your 8 double crochets across your chain and then do another 8 double crochets in the other loop of each chain, such that your 16th stitch would end up next to your ch-2 that you did at the beginning of round 1. It is like crocheting around the chain.

I hope that helps, but if I confused you, let know and I will try to help some more 🙂

    Hi Rachel

I’ve finished this project and it was fun!!! I love my case. Thank you very much.

During this project, I’ve encounted another problem… I didn’t know how to do this part SL ST IN CH-2 and I had to improvised. Could you explaine that, please? I know what SL ST is but CH-2?

    Many thanks

    Persephonna

    • Rachel says:

      Hey Persephonna!

the “ch-2” refers to the ch 2 that you did at the beginning of the round. So you slip stitch in the 2nd ch of the chain 2 that you made. This connects the beginning to the end of the round.

      I hope that helps 🙂
      Rachel

  13. Persephonna says:

Thanks for your reply. It realy helps. I knew that has connection with last chain that I’ve made, but I wasn’t sure where exactly to insert the hook. Now I know :).

Thanks one more time for your patience!

    Persephonna.

This is awesome! I made a pink one to start and then a red one with the USC logo on the back for my boyfriend! I had to use single crochet to fit the logo, and then it didn’t fit his phone so I got to keep it… hahaha! Great pattern! I love the crocheted button (=

  16. Emi says:

    Hi Rachel ,

love your blog , your patterns are well explained and easy to follow.
I made this pattern but when i connect slip stitch in the 2nd ch of the chain 2 it was not very neat .. there were gaps when i finished the pattern.
    Need your help

    Regards
    Emi

    • Rachel says:

Hi Emi, make sure you didn’t accidentally skip any stitches next to your ch 2. If there is a gap, adding an extra stitch to where to gap is won’t hurt.

  17. Emi says:

    Thanks for the reply ..

  18. Pam says:

I am new at crocheting and I am having trouble unfortunately. When you say ” dc on opposite side of foundation” I thought it meant to simply turn and dc across foundation? It did not look right so I must misunderstand…..Also when you say “16 dc” where am I doing those dc’s. I am sorry if I sound dumb but I am new at this and sometimes the phrasing confuses me. Can you give me a little help? I would appreciate that.

    Pam

    • Rachel says:

Hi Pam, here’s a tutorial that might help you out: How to Crochet on Opposite Side of Chain
In the tutorial there’s pictures so you can see what it looks like to crochet on the other side.

Also, the numbers after the colon are the total stitch count for the round. So if it says “: 16dc” at the end, you would have completed a total of 16 double crochet on that round.
