So cute 🙂
thank you for the free patterns, i really appreciate it. Thank you for the tutorials, would not be able to make some items if it wasn’t for that.
What i would like to see is some St. Patrick’s day patterns, please not to hard. I can do most basic stitches and follow a pattern quite easily.
thank you
Hi Donna, here’s a St. Patrick’s Day pattern:Crochet Pattern: Four Leaf Clover I’ll be sure to add some more soon!
Hello. I just received 200 styrofoam balls from a friend!! These are the same size!! I am going to make each individual family in my extended family a set of 12 ornaments. This pattern is such a great help!! I also have eight cats and I am making toys for them using fiberfil for the toys. I also plan on donating some toys to the Humane Society here in Omaha. I also crochet blankets for the cats & dogs at the shelter. They love granny square blankets, for some reason!! Take care and thanks again for this great pattern!! Jeanine
I can not for the life of me find polyfill, or stocking filler or whatever you call it. I looked at Knitting warehouse, Michael’s, and some other sites. This is to stuff say ornaments, stuff animals etc. Please give me a suggestion of where to buy this please.
Hi Donna, I get mines at Michael’s (not online, but in the store). I know that the big craft store should all carry it, they might not list it online if that’s where you were looking. But I did just checked the Joann site and it’s on there. Just do a search for “polyester fiberfill” and it should pop up.
It is so cute, thank you for the free pattern. I’ll make it for the Christmas.
I was really excited to start the christmas ball pattern and I know it says beginner but I just can’t seem to get it! My center ends up being not centered and the circle is all wavy. Help me please!
Hi Kristin, if your ball ends up wavy that is a sign that there are too many stitches in a particular round. So be sure that the number of stitches in each round is the same amount indicated in the pattern. Also, be sure to use a stitch marker to help you see the end and beginning of each round. If you need help understanding a particular part of the pattern, let me know and I’ll be glad to explain it in more detail.
If I wanted to add spots to these without them looking like little tumors on the ball how would I do that?
Hi Hezaaa, if you want to add spots, you can use felt or similar materials and cut out circles and sew them on. You can also use the first round in the pattern to make a small circle and sew that on.
@kristin
Just an add on to what Rachel said.
If your ball looks a little wavy sometimes you can fix that by changing the amount of stuffing you use.
🙂
thanks so much for this pattern! i plan on making a bunch of these for my christmas tree this year. much safer option for those of us with babies that will be grabbing stuff off the tree.
Thank you SO much for this pattern! Just the other day I was thinking that I wanted some crocheted ball ornaments and was thinking about how I was going to make them and today, I stumble onto this! Thank you so much! 🙂
Thanks for this pattern! I am actually going to make a bunch of these to hang in the closet — we’ve had an onslaught of clothes moths this year, so these will be perfect stuffed with a little cedar and polyfill. They shouldn’t take up too much room, either.
Thanks!
Jennie
Thanks Rachel. Just saw your reply.
Hi Rachel.
I’m a crochet newbie, and I’ve reached the part of the pattern above that says “decrease, sc in next 3 sc”. How do I do that? In really simple terms please, as I really am new at this 🙂
Thank you so much.
Hi Debbie, here’s the tutorial for doing the decrease: http://www.crochetspot.com/how-to-crochet-single-crochet-decrease/
After you do the decrease, you’ll make 1 single crochet stitch into each of the next 3 single crochet stitches. Let me know if you need more help.
Okay…that makes sense now. Thank you for your help and for the wonderful free patterns 🙂
I was looking for a larger ball pattern for my cats. I added catnip and large bells inside with cotton filler, also finishing it off without the loop. This was perfect and the girls are loving them. Thank-you so much!
i just did a search for a crocheted ball ornament, and yours popped right up! thanks so much for giving me a pattern to work from. i kind of stumbled onto how to do it just by fiddling around, but it makes me feel better to work from a pattern. one question, though: how would i make the ornaments bigger around than two inches? do i just increase the amount of rounds in the middle that are the same amount of stitches, or would i have to do more increasing and decreasing before and after those rounds? anyway, thank you for the pattern. i am trying to make some for my friends and family for christmas.
Hi Carma, to make the ball bigger you’d have to do more increases and decreases before the middle rounds, and you should also crochet more of the middle rounds. Here’s a tutorial on how to crochet a basic sphere that explains how to make it bigger: How to Crochet a Sphere
