Crochet Pattern: Rose Bush Scrubbie Set

By Rachel Choi – June 5th, 2016 4 Comments

Inspired by the rose bushes in my garden, this set includes rose shaped scrubbies and green cleaning cloths. The scrubbies and cloths can be displayed in a cute flower pot to resemble a rose bush, making it a great gift idea and decoration for your home. The rose shaped scrubbies are crocheted with ordinary yarn and nylon netting held together to create a rough texture that’s great for scrubbing. Use a scrubbie for your dishes and another to exfoliate your face or body. The cleaning cloth has a leaf inspired stitch pattern and a hexagon shape. It can be used to clean dishes and counter tops, or used as a washcloth or face cloth. Crochet with 100% cotton yarn for extra absorbency. Pattern includes a tutorial for preparing and crocheting with nylon netting.

By Caissa "Cami" McClinton – June 4th, 2016 Be the first to comment
You can find alphabet beads in the kids’ section of your craft store. But why should kids have all the fun? I love using alphabet beads for various crafts, and since we’ve been exploring beads quite a bit here on Crochet Spot, I decided to design a bracelet that proudly proclaims to the world my love of crochet! I hope you like it as much as I do! This pattern is written to accommodate the “I LOVE CROCHET” message, but you could substitute other words.

An Honest Review of the Yarnit

By Rachel Choi – June 2nd, 2016 12 Comments

Is that a magical, crystal ball with yarn I see?? No, it’s the Yarnit! It’s a nifty, new gadget for holding your yarn while you crochet (or knit). The yarn sits inside the globe so that it doesn’t roll around on the floor or get dirty. You can use it at home, but it’s also great for folks who like to travel with their projects. Is the Yarnit for you? With any item there are always pros and cons, and in this review I’ll share with you my honest opinion.

Tips and Fun from Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival 2016

By Candace – May 31st, 2016 Be the first to comment

Who loves fiber festivals? I do! And if you haven’t been to one yet, I wholeheartedly recommend looking up ones near you and going. This year, I was fortunate to be able to make it down to Maryland for the annual Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival, and between festival itself and time I got to spend with friends, I had a ball! As with any event, it’s more fun when you keep some things in mind.

Crochet Pattern: Colorful Rainbow Mug Rug

By Caissa "Cami" McClinton – May 26th, 2016 Be the first to comment
I could not stop with just one Mug Rug pattern, especially with the merry month of June upon us. Show your pride and/or love of diversity this summer with this versatile Colorful Rainbow Mug Rug! I made mine using (some of) a jumbo package of embroidery floss. Each color used just over one 10-yard skein of floss held double (two strands of floss held together while crocheting), meaning each stripe used the length of about 5.5 yards as held double, or about 11 yards total. These stripes could be changed to any colors to suit your mood. The cotton floss held double ended up being about the weight of a sock yarn.

Crochet Pattern: Felted Flower

By Candace – May 24th, 2016 Be the first to comment
Felting is something that I wasn’t originally interested in, but over time, the idea has grown on me. For my first pattern, I wanted to start with something small. An accent is a great first felted project because even if you don’t felt it enough or you felt it a little too much, the difference in size won’t be disastrous. Try adding a cluster of felted flowers to a finished hat or scarf or wearing one as a brooch to finish off an outfit. crochet_felted_flower

Crochet Pattern: Beaded Arc Necklace

By Rachel Choi – May 22nd, 2016 Be the first to comment

This fashion necklace is one of my new favorites. It’s really all about the beads. Choose a few beads in your favorite colors and string them together with crochet. The beads can be all one color, or different colors. Blues are my favorite to wear, but feel free to make the necklace in any color that you like. Imagine the necklace with vibrant orange or yellow to add a pop of color to a summer outfit. Try it in black, silver or gold for an elegant look. Whatever look you choose, it’s sure to look great tied around your neck!
