Hello, Crochet Spot friends! I have a real treat for you today. You might be aware of Twinkie Chan from any of her many crochet activities – including her blog, YouTube channel, or seeing her patterns at Michael’s or on the Lion Brand website. You may have seen her previous book, Twinkie Chan’s Crochet Goodies for Fashion Foodies: 20 Yummy Treats to Wear. Or you may have seen the article I wrote about her innovative crocheted paintings. Perhaps you’ve run across her clothing line, Yummy You at a local boutique. Without a doubt, Twinkie Chan is a powerful force in crochet, and I’ve been a big fan since 2010.
All images in this post are property of Twinkie Chan and are used with permission.
Quarto Publishing just released Twinkie’s highly anticipated sophomore book,
Twinkie Chan’s Crocheted Abode A La Mode ~ 20 Yummy Crochet Projects for Your Home and it is chock-full of joyful, exuberant, delicious, crochet fun. I have been rabidly awaiting my review copy since I heard it was available for pre-order. And, we are so very lucky that the publisher is allowing me to give away not just one copy, but three!

Crochet the pendant in bright, bold colors to add a pop to your outfit. Feel free to try the pattern if different weights of yarn to achieve a larger or smaller pendant.
If you enjoy the style of this necklace, then check out the V Pendant Necklace Set so that you can crochet the entire collection.

This shawl is made with three mesh stitch patterns that are very similar, but vary in openness. The stitches work together to create a shawl that is more solid at the top and bottom and more open in the middle. Crochet this shawl for yourself or for a friend. It can be adjusted to be any size that you wish by following the instructions within the pattern to adjust the width and length. This light weight shawl is great for the warmer weather of summer. You can even wear it to the beach as a cover up! The pattern includes a tie strap to secure the shawl in place around your shoulders or wrapped around your waist, however you want to wear it.

If you want to try your hand at stitching with multiple beads, this simple pouch is a great place to start. The beads on the front of the pouch create stripes that add weight and need no color changes–great for people who don’t like weaving in ends.
Use the bag to hold your tiny treasures or as a gift bag for jewelry and other small items. Or you can line it and keep your notions–like yarn needles–in it. |

April is here, and spring is in the air. As you may know, I like to keep track of interesting holidays and observances. Any reason to crochet is a good one. I recently found out that April is known as “Drop Everything And Read,” or D.E.A.R. Month. Here on Crochet Spot, we have a number of great bookmark patterns. I’ve rounded them up here (and I’ve even included a bonus book cover pattern).

This set includes 4 V-shaped pendants to crochet: a solid pendant, a striped pendant, and 2 different lacy pendants. Crochet your very own fashion necklaces with these quick patterns. Each V-shaped pendant is quick to crochet, you’ll have ready to wear necklaces in no time! I love the contrast between the soft look of crochet with the metal of the necklace chain. But if you prefer an all crocheted necklace, feel free to crochet a chain in place of the metal chain. The chain can be made as long or short as you desire. You can also crochet the pendant in different weights of yarn and/or different hook sizes to create a bigger or smaller pendant.

Sometimes it only takes a simple piece to make a bold statement. These earrings are easy enough for an adventurous beginner and eye-catching enough to set you apart.
Wear them convex or concave (or both at the same time if you like) to vary your look. |

Herringbone double crochet (HBdc) is one of the first special stitches I learned. It is an easy way to create texture in any project. To achieve the full effect of the stitch, Herringbone double crochet should be worked back and forth in rows. For the purpose of practicing this skill, we’ll make a swatch in this tutorial. Yarn and hook size don’t matter for this practice swatch.

I’m very excited this week, as we come to the Turkish spindle, the fourth post in our series “Spindles Around the World“. So far we’ve discussed the drop spindle and the Navajo spindle.
The Turkish drop spindle is incredible, in that the yarn is wound around the whorl, creating a ball of yarn that slides off the shaft and is ready to use! Amazing!
