Hooray! I am very glad to say that the first Crochet Spot Oscar Mystery CAL was a success! The Oscar Ceremony took place on Sunday, February 28 and ran for three long hours! With my crochet hook in hand, I enjoyed the ceremony much more (and I wasn’t the only one!)

I’ve been in need of a new pincusion, and wanted to crochet one, but a lot of the available patterns looked too smooshy. I wanted something more solid and came across some foam balls used to make Christmas ornaments and other crafts. Perfect! Now I don’t have to worry about the pincushion possibly being squished and pins coming out the other side. The chick design makes it a fun Easter gift idea from one crafter to another. You can substitute other colors to make a chubby version of another bird. |

I’ve been wanting to crochet a doily rug for quite some time, but could not decide on the material to crochet it with. Factoring in cost, thickness, and availability, it finally hit me that I can simply use the same yarn that I always crochet with! Medium/worst weight yarn is used in this rug pattern. Medium/worst weight yarn is the most popular weight of yarn there is, and can be found in a variety of colors in any store that sells yarn. To achieve the look of bulky stitches, 3 strands of yarn are held together throughout the entire pattern. In just 22 rounds, you’ll have a rug that will show off your crochet skills and make a statement in your house.

In the fiber arts world, the Navajo people are recognized for their world-renown rugs and other woven textiles. As a teacher on the Navajo Nation for over a decade, I was able to see the beautiful handcraft in my students’ dresses and belts that they wore on special days such as class pictures and the school Christmas concert. For spinners, the Navajo spindle is well-known for its simple but graceful design. In our third post in the Spindles Around the World Series, we will be discussion the Navajo spindle, traditionally used by Navajo and Pueblo people in the southwestern United States.

Hey, there! Ever seen the hashtag #NATCROMO floating around the internets? Well, it’s all about the mellow month of March and National Crochet Month. Yes, in addition its duty as National Craft Month, March is also National Crochet Month, earning it the hashtaggable nickname NATCROMO.
Each year, Crochetville does a NATCROMO comprehensive blog tour and this year is no exception. Be sure to check it out! In the spirit of Ravelry, some inclusiveness-minded yarn partiers have also claimed the month as International Crochet Month, or ITCROMO, so you’ll probably see that hashtag, too.
So the question is left – what will we do here at Crochet Spot? In the past, Rachel shared a number of ways to celebrate, and in true Crochet Spot style, you shared your great celebrations! I loved reading about Wanty’s shindig. During this particular NATCROMO, I’m suggesting we keep it simple and make up a couple of these cute appliques to wear. Join me?

Inspired by the cords and beads of Bohemian style bracelets, this set is crocheted with tan thread and bright beads of various sizes. These friendship bracelets look great worn by themselves or stacked together. The set includes 3 different bracelet patterns: a bracelet that is crocheted with large beads, a bracelet that is crocheted with small beads, and a bracelet that is crocheted with alternating bead sizes. Each bracelet is crocheted in the round. Previous experience crocheting with beads is not required, as a photo tutorial is included within the pattern. Experience crocheting with thread is recommended, but not required. Finish off the bracelets with a clasp and an extender chain to make the bracelets adjustable. Bracelets can also be adjusted by adding more or less beads if desired.

Do you love the intricate look of filet crochet but can’t get your spaces to come out right? Do your “squares” look like “rectangles”? This is a common problem that can happen to any crocheter, but is easy to fix. Grab your crochet hook and your favorite thread and let’s get busy! In this tutorial I’ll give you a few pointers to get those squares looking square.

After understanding the basics in filet crochet, many crocheters run into the same problem. After completing a few rows or a section or even an entire piece, they realize that their filet open and closed spaces (also called “squares”, “mesh”, “blocks” and others) have more of a rectangle shape. What do we do to fix this?
