There is quite a bit of math that goes into crochet. Sometimes it works perfectly with basic techniques, but there are times where a crafter needs to get creative and increase to decrease or decrease to increase to get the right shaping and number of stitches. If I’ve said it once… I’ll have to say it again. Hedgehogs are too cute! Their rotund bodies, spiky fur, and little pointy noses all add up to one adorable creature. Recently I was shopping at a craft store, and while browsing the fall decorations, I found many great hedgehog things. It seems this year, hedgehogs are in! So I’ve added my own special project to the mix. This potholder is made using fairly simple instructions and basic crochet techniques. Ahhh! As I am writing this I am eagerly anticipating all the yarny wonder of the famous fiber event, Stitches Midwest. By the time you read this, the event will be over, but as it turns out, there are a number of crochet conventions and fiber festivals all over the world (and even at sea!)

How does one find a fiber festival? How can one make the most of the time there? Read on for my (lengthy but nowhere near comprehensive) list of crochet conventions and fiber festivals and a few tips for saving money and enjoying the event!

Here is a quick basket pattern to solve your storage needs! The basket is crocheted in the round from the bottom up. You can make it as big or as small as you like using the instructions within the pattern to adjust its size. Make it big enough to use as a laundry basket or small enough to fit perfectly on a cube shelf. Being able to adjust the width and length of the basket makes the possibilities endless! The sample basket in the photo uses a variegated yarn to create a quick colorful basket, but feel free to use a solid color or multiple colors if desired.

The puff stitch is one of the many traditional crochet stitches that easily translates over to Tunisian crochet. I like puff stitches because they don’t add as much bulk as some other relief stitches, but they still stand out nicely. If you are already familiar with Tunisian crochet, try this stitch out.

My life has been engulfed in yarn, crochet, and having good crafty times lately and I couldn’t be happier about it. I recently made a really beautiful crochet lace poncho that looks fabulous on everyone! It was crocheted in the beautiful Louet Euroflax Sport Weight Linen. The pattern was from Rustic Modern Crochet by Yumiko Alexander.

I had a lot of fun crocheting this poncho, but I knew that it would have to be specially blocked when I was done. Maybe you are wondering what blocking is and how you can do it. If so, read on to follow my process step by step.
