Quite often, most crocheters from way back will use the yarn weight they have available to them at the time because it is cost effective and easily accessible. Perhaps, we may not even know about or use all of the yarn weights available, even if the patterns may call for a different yarn weight other than the most popular number four (4).
Here, in this piece, I have decided to compile a very simple guide to the various yarn weights and what each of them can be used for when we’re creating our items this year. The changing of the calendar year is a perfect time for reflection. It feels natural to look back at the previous year and decide to make a fresh start in the new one. I’ve found that through reflection, I’ve made a deeper connection to what inspires me. Inspiration is a GREAT feeling. I don’t know about you, but if inspiration is flowing, I will take any chance I can get to honor it, enjoy it, and capture it.
While reflection and inspiration could refer to just about anything in life, crochet is special in that we can turn our inspiration into a tangible, touchable thing. It could be cozy, like a warm shawl or blanket. It could be giant & joyful, like a crocheted playground. It could be almost anything at all, but the point is that crochet makes our inspirations real.

| What inspires you to start your next crochet project? A pattern, a stitch, or is it the yarn? Most of the time, I have a design in mind and then the stitch and yarn follow. But with this Hyacinth Cowl, it was reversed. I noticed this yarn from Red Heart called Boutique Unforgettable in Petunia and I new I wanted to use it for something light and wispy. I came up with this stitch pattern which features a combination of chains, single crochets, and double crochets. In no time at all, I finished this wispy cowl and you can too! |  |

| You can’t make just one! That’s what I say every time I make one. I started making these scarves years ago and now it has become a tradition with me to make sure each of my family members has one.
