This is the last installment of this series on transforming your crochet mistakes. In truth, some of the mishaps that occur in our crochet projects aren’t always mistakes. I say it that way because we tend to look at things that way. Crochet is a fun activity, a relaxing hobby, yet it doesn’t go without its frustrating moments
In addition, it may not be a mistake, but a coincidence that can turn into a creative treasure. The key factor to handling a crochet mistake is to tap into one’s own creativity. In part 2 of this series, I shared ideas on creative ways to use leftover afghan squares. In this last installment of the series, I will share some fun ideas on what to do with spare yarn (i.e., small amounts of yarn leftover). You’ll see what I mean, check it out.

With the arrival of autumn, everything is orange, brown and yellow, with a smidgen of green. Personally, my favorite color palette. You see it in the trees and the fields, and we celebrate the season with adding these same colors to our décor. Wrap you favorite mug in this autumn inspired cozy to add to the festive spirit. With a band of single crochet and a pumpkin applique practically worked in one round, it’s very simple and works up quick. For another mug cozy, check out last weeks Snowflake Mug Cozy. |

The inspiration for this post was my own personal reflections about my relationship with crochet. Crochet is a wonderful craft and since it’s portable, people may do it more often than some of the other crafts. However, I would like to get an idea of how often you, Crochet Spotters, actually crochet.

This crochet pattern is great for beginners who would like to crochet their first hat! The pattern comes in 5 sizes from baby to adults, so you can crochet a beanie for everyone in the family. Double crochet stitches are the primary stitches used in this pattern, making each beanie fairly quick to crochet. The beanie can be worn slouchy like in the sample photo, or with the edge folded up for extra warmth around the ears.

This is the second part in a three-part series for transforming possible crochet mistakes. This time I am exploring extra pieces to a crochet project. Specifically, I have found myself having several extra afghan squares that I didn’t use for an afghan, either because I didn’t finish the project or had made a few too many.
This is where our creativity can kick in. It’s always fun trying to figure out what to do with the extra pieces. So, I came up with a few ideas listed below. I hope you enjoy them and they spark even more ideas for you.

The cool days are coming, or already here for some, which means that hot tea in the morning is even more necessary than before, or so we tea drinkers would have you believe. Mug cozies are the funnest way to accessorize your mug because you can design them any way you might choose. There are a handful of ways to make them, but all are very simple and enjoyable. Here is one using some simple stitches and some wintry embellishments! The pattern is made to fit an average size mug, but squeeze it over a taller mug and you might like it just as well. |

Double crochet. Double crochet. Finish off. Balloons fall from the ceiling and everyone around you erupts with applause. Wait. That’s not the way your last crochet project ended? Hm. After all the time, care, and concentration we put into our work, sometimes it seems like we should have a celebration! And when you think about all of the resources that went into your project before you even knew you would make it, like the hook you use, the yarn, the patterns… Actually, the patterns have much more to them than the designer. Technical Editors and editors tweak the patterns before publication. Speaking of publication, what about our wonderful websites and magazines that post crochet patterns so that we can have them? Don’t all of those people deserve an award as well?
Well, actually, there is an award system created by crocheters for crocheters! It’s called the Flaming Hook of Justice, or “Flamie” Award. The awards began as a conversation thread in the Crochet Liberation Front Ravelry forum and grew into a well respected measure of recognition in the crochet industry.

With a wedding on the horizon, I asked my friend what colors she wanted in her new kitchen. She responded with yellow and black. These two colors, sometimes mixed with white, has met with popularity in home decor and fashion, among other areas. My decision to make her dishtowels was an easy one. Dishtowels make wonderful gifts for anyone, especially those setting out to make a new home. Plus they are handmade and should last many years to come. This set includes patterns for a diamond stitch, chevron stitch pattern, and the ever-loving granny stitch. Designed for three colors, choose any that suit your taste and have fun making all three dishtowel patterns! |

Spiral flowers are quick and easy to make and look great as an accent for a wide variety of projects. If you’re a fan of big buttons like I am, this flower is a good substitute. The flower is made base first, then petals, but it is all in one piece. It’s worked from the center to the edge then back again. |

I love the Autumn season. So naturally, I have my favorite seasonal colors of yarn all ready to make some nice scarves, hats, and decorative things for the home. The air is filled with the energy of harvest time. I am excited about getting started with my crochet projects. I grab a skein of multi-colored earth tone, medium worsted yarn and my favorite J-size crochet hook. I begin to crochet a hat from memory.
It comes out all wrong! I examine this so-called crochet hat wondering where I went wrong. Now, I don’t attribute this mistake to the fact that I haven’t crocheted a hat in two years. Oh no! I just dive right in head first from memory.
