Crochet Pattern: Travel Jewelry Pocket

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on May 30th, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 4 Comments
Now that summer is almost here vacation season is upon us. My family and I do a lot of traveling all throughout the year. I love seeing historic sights, visiting the beach and hiking in the mountains. Through the years I have tried to get just a little more organized each time I pack. I try my best to think ahead and pack accordingly so that if my luggage gets thrown around I won’t have to worry. This week, since I have a trip ahead of me, I decided to crochet this jewelry pocket to protect my favorite necklace from bumps and scratches during my travels.

Crochet Pattern: Strawberry

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on May 26th, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 3 Comments
I have been harvesting strawberries like crazy in our garden. I simply can’t resist their tempting sweetness. If held to the sun their sugary flesh is almost metallic in color. This week I decided to take my love of strawberries one step further and create this crochet pattern for you to enjoy. There are so many uses for this pattern, from decorating kids apparel to a zipper pull on your purse. Or, if you don’t want your strawberry to be three-dimensional, just make one half of the berry and use it as a cute applique on kitchen linens! The sky is the limit!

Crochet Pattern: Popsicle

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on May 17th, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 4 Comments
As a kid did you ever make your own popsicles? I fondly remember those little plastic molds complete with a popcicle stick lid. It was so much fun to make my own treats. However, I was too impatient to wait for the popsicle to harden. When I went to pull the treat from the frosty mold the stick inevitably slid out and I was left to frantically eat the slushy fruit juice. This week’s project reminds me of a raspberry all fruit bar. It’s a perfect project for kids. Plus, you won’t have to worry about this treat melting!

Crochet Pattern: Pinwheel

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on May 12th, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 14 Comments
Now that we have some breezy warm afternoons upon us I’m sure you’ve been finding pinwheels at the local dollar shops. Kids can’t resist them. Oftentimes we see them for party decor or even replicated with fabric for quilt blocks. This week I decided to try crocheting a pinwheel and this pattern is what resulted. You can use this project to spruce up throw pillows and other home accessories. Make it out of finer yarn and it makes great appliques, pins, or hair accessories. I used two colors for this pattern but you can easily make each blade out of a different color.

Crochet Pattern: Flower Hair Pin

This flower is so easy and simple to crochet but it can be used a million ways. Lately I’ve seen crocheted flowers popping up everywhere on clothes, toys, accessories, and home decor. I love the fact that they can be made in little time and yet these simple appliques can really spice up anything their applied to. In your spare time crochet several using scrap yarn and save them in a jar for upcoming projects. If you have some extra bobby pins around the house this is a great way to infuse new life into them.

Crochet Pattern: Popcorn Ombre Child’s Headband

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on April 28th, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 2 Comments
I have seen some really cute hair accessories everywhere I turn. A lot of my favorite department stores’ accessories sections have a large area devoted to hair barrettes, bows, bobby pins and headbands. While I must admit I’ve added several new hair doodads to my collection I have taken to making my own as well. I embellished this child’s headband in a matter of ten minutes for my daughter (that includes hunting down the headband itself). I love yarn that graduates in color and texture. This project is a perfect one for using up your treasured yarn scraps.

Crochet Pattern: Watermelon Applique

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on April 19th, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 2 Comments
One thing my garden can’t be without is several hills of watermelon. My family can’t resist it’s mouthwatering sweetness; it’s my daughter’s favorite summer treat! So, I created this watermelon applique to embelish her summer dresses. I’m also going to sew it on one of her white t-shirts to add a touch of pizzaz! Why pay lots of money for something similar at a boutique when you can make it yourself for little to nothing! This applique would also be great sewn onto picnic napkins to catch some of the juicy sweetness of summer’s favorite fruit.

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on April 5th, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 3 Comments
I really love quilting. Mixing and matching all my favorite fabrics together to make something beautiful is so rewarding. So, the thought occurred to me, why not use my favorite quilt patterns for crochet patterns? This week I made a bow tie quilt block pattern for you to enjoy. You could make this block into something special for a baby with all the beautiful baby yarn available. You don’t have to break the budget either; it’s a great way to use up scrap yarn. Make several blocks with different colored bowties to create an afghan.

Spring is here! I am so glad, aren’t you? I can’t wait to spend my evenings outside as the weather warms up and the daylight lengthens. You just can’t beat the wonderful scent of lilacs, daffodils and tulips in the air. It won’t be long and butterflies will be visiting my garden again too. I just can’t wait to see them peacefully resting on my flowers. In anticipation of their arrival I created this butterfly pattern for you this week. You could use it for a pin or an applique. It’s great for kid’s clothing, totes, and hats. You could also sew it on baby blankets and accessories!

It is so fast to make and can be used in a variety of ways. It’s also a great scrap saver project for all those extra yarn bits that are lying around.
