Crochet Pattern: Rosette

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on December 29th, 2011 by Emilee Gettle – 6 Comments
I admit I miss my beautiful flower garden, which my family tends from the first crocus to fall mums. So, to satisfy my longing I enjoy crocheting flowers, especially with fingering yarn. They look so lacy and feminine and can be used in a myriad of ways. This rosette can be used as a bow on packages, on a child’s headband, or a pin for a hat or coat. They can be crocheted in no time and can be quite addictive. I hope to make several of these rosettes in a rainbow of colors to join into a lacy scarf that can be worn into early spring.

Crochet Pattern: Whimsy Snowman Applique

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on December 20th, 2011 by Emilee Gettle – 4 Comments
Are you dreaming of a white Christmas? As a kid snow on Christmas was a pretty high priority, but not so much that we couldn’t drive to my Grandma’s house for all the holiday festivities. Those years have long since passed and since a white Christmas isn’t in my forecast for this year I thought I’d whip up a little snowman applique to remind me of all those warm Christmas time memories. This frosty fellow would be perfect perched on your gift tags, for embellishing kid’s clothes or any other project that might need a bit of sprucing up for the holidays.

I love Christmas and shopping for the perfect gift for everyone on my list. It’s a special time of year to show those close to you how much they really mean to you. I have several people on my list who love crafting as much as I do. Since we all dabble in about a 101 different projects at a time it’s sometimes hard to know what supplies to buy and stick beneath the tree. So, for the yarn lovers I crocheted this gift card holder that will be home to a gift card from one of my favorite yarn shops. Crochet Pattern: Christmas Holly Applique

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on December 6th, 2011 by Emilee Gettle – 5 Comments
While digging through my boxes of holiday decorations I found garland after garland of holly. So, this week’s pattern is, you guessed it, a holly applique. I think this would look so sweet around the hem of a child’s dress. It could also be used to spruce up your Christmas gift tags. You could also turn it into an ornament and send it in your holiday cards as a small gift. If you give baskets of baked goods to your neighbors, you could sew this applique on the towel lining the basket. Your creativity is the only limit to the uses for this pattern. Have fun!

Crochet Pattern: Christmas Wreath Applique

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on November 30th, 2011 by Emilee Gettle – 6 Comments
It’s that time of year again! Time to pull out all the Christmas decorations from the attic and spruce up your home. Every year I love searching for the perfect wreath for my door. As a special treat, I like taking a walk through the woods and cutting my own greenery. I bring it home and wire wrap it onto a grapevine wreath for an inexpensive but beautiful and welcome sight on our front door. This week I made a Christmas wreath applique, which is a great project when you need a little holiday embellishment quick. You could use it on cards, clothes and linens.

When I was a child I remember one afternoon, while I was taking my nap, my mom crocheted some play food for me. When I awoke there by my pillow was some sweet handmade goodies! Now it’s my turn, and as soon as my little girl awakes from her nap she’ll have these little cookies waiting for her. They are so easy to make and a lot of fun. You can whip up a batch in no time! Make a baker’s dozen and give in a small tin to a little one in your life. Don’t forget to take some for children on your baked good delivery route this holiday season!

Crochet Pattern: Turkey Applique

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on November 18th, 2011 by Emilee Gettle – 2 Comments
It’s hard to believe the holidays are knocking on our door! I love Thanksgiving! It is one of the only days of the year when I get to see most all of my family. I love recalling childhood days and sharing those memories with those dear to my heart. This week my crochet project is a turkey applique in honor of Turkey Day! This little applique can be used in many ways for clothes, kitchen or dining room linens, cards or even as a pin to wear. I used a finer crochet thread for the feathers and a bit chunkier fingering yarn for the body to add definition.

Crochet Pattern: Amish Nine Patch Potholder

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on November 9th, 2011 by Emilee Gettle – 9 Comments
When I was young I knew an Amish lady who became a dear friend of mine. I loved visiting her small mercantile that was filled with every kind of calico and solid colored fabric imaginable. Amish ladies in the community made crafts to sell in her store to earn a little extra spending money. I love the simple color combinations of Amish crafts and created this potholder along the lines of what Lizzie might be selling in her store today. Since it is super thick it will guard against hot pots and pans perfectly. This project would also make a cute little pillow!

Crochet Pattern: Apple of My Eye Applique

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on November 5th, 2011 by Emilee Gettle – 5 Comments
I love visiting orchards this time of year and buying apples by the peck or the bushel. Growing up I have fond memories of making apple butter with my grandma in a giant copper kettle over and open fire. The woodsmoke and sweet apple scent filled the air. After cooking down for hours we canned the yummy treat to preserve for the chilly days of winter. This week, I created this applique which can be used hundreds of ways. It would look darling on kitchen towels! As a gift, I plan to sew this on a onesie and embroider, “Apple of My Eye” for a sweet little girl I know.

The Tooth Fairy has a tough job flying to so many houses to collect baby teeth. Make it a little easier by putting the tooth in one of these pillows with a handy pocket.
