The Crochet Awards Are Back!
By Caissa "Cami" McClinton – Be the first to commentDouble crochet. Double crochet. Finish off. Balloons fall from the ceiling and everyone around you erupts with applause. Wait. That’s not the way your last crochet project ended? Hm. After all the time, care, and concentration we put into our work, sometimes it seems like we should have a celebration! And when you think about all of the resources that went into your project before you even knew you would make it, like the hook you use, the yarn, the patterns… Actually, the patterns have much more to them than the designer. Technical Editors and editors tweak the patterns before publication. Speaking of publication, what about our wonderful websites and magazines that post crochet patterns so that we can have them? Don’t all of those people deserve an award as well?
Well, actually, there is an award system created by crocheters for crocheters! It’s called the Flaming Hook of Justice, or “Flamie” Award. The awards began as a conversation thread in the Crochet Liberation Front Ravelry forum and grew into a well respected measure of recognition in the crochet industry.
This year the nominations are crowd-sourced. If you’re a crochet fan you can nominate your favorite designer, blog, book, hook, tech editor, youtube channel, and more! To learn more about the 2014 Crochet Awards, click here.
After the nominations are finalized, there will be voting and an exciting awards presentation. Since The Crochet Awards are a product of the Crochet Liberation Front, you should check this part of that blog for updates and history.
You know… Crochet Spot is a pretty great blog, don’t you think? I do! If there’s anything you’ve seen that would fit into the Crochet Award categories, take the plunge & nominate!
